Lovely Sunday over at ScentMother's splitting bottles and I am wearing one of those new bottles:

    Parfumerie Generale L'Eau Guerriere

Pierre Guillaume is very quietly putting together a high quality line of perfumes. Parfumerie Generale doesn't get the press that other niche lines get but I have been impressed with the breadth of what he has attempted across the line and it certainly deserves some respect. L'Eau Guerriere was released in 2008 and is a good example of the Parfumerie Generale style. Take some high quality ingredients, in this case: cinchona bark, aldehydes, olibanum, aloe wood, and musk. Find a theme, "woody, sexy" and give it a ridiculous name, "Warrior Water". I don't know who comes up with the names for these scents but to date every one has made me laugh and wonder whether the person responsible for naming them has even sniffed the contents of the bottle the name is going on. "Warrior Water" sounds like the latest sports drink instead of the beautifully woody sophisticated scent that is in this bottle. At the top the cinchona is the first impression. It has a deep woods feel, very pine-like. Cinchona is an evergreen so that isn't surprising. Cinchona is also a source for quinine, the bitter component from tonic water. The bitter quinine in conjunction with the aldehydes make the top of this an astringent, vaporous, amazing concoction that seems to explode in waves off of my skin. Olibanum in the heart adds a resinous, incense charge to the fireworks of the beginning. Finally the musk adds a sensual depth and grounds this beautifully. By the time you get to the end the cinchona, olibanum and musk have combined to leave you in a beautiful place. I may hate the name but I'll be wearing this "Warrior Water" probably as much as I drink Gatorade.

    Have a Munificent Monday everyone.

    Parfums de Nicolai New York
This stuff is beautiful but it's named all wrong. Maybe this is what New York smells like from Paris?

Tourmaline by Herve Domar. I was given a complete set of samples, nine in all, of this collection. They are named after different gem stones and each one has a glass gem inside that corresponds to the scent. Tourmaline is designated to lavender. As nice as it is, there is absolutely nothing new going on here, except for a musty heart note that almost ruins the simplicity. So far, with the exception of Brown Diamond/Patchouly Flower, I'm not overly impressed with the line.

Lovely afternoon of scent indulgence with ScentSon SMM yesterday, making the monster spring cleaning substantially more bearable. It was kind of funny to have each of my kids and then my DH come in from outside and, completely independently from each other, say something to the effect of "Wow! It smells like a bordello in here!" DH actually did say that, and promptly began back-pedaling... "I mean, it's how I IMAGINE a bordello would smell... I mean, um." I was tempted to send him to borrow a cup of sugar from Veuve.

And I think it says something about how over-the-top nuts I've become about perfume that I feel like I'm 'slumming' a bit today in Gucci Envy for Men.

Envy for Men notes: Opoponax, Incense, Patchouli, Amber, Musk, Cedarwood, Cardamom, Anise, Ginger, Nutmeg, Pimento.
It’s thought that people who hope too much will just waste their life away and never get down to doing any real work. They’re confusing Hope with Wish, its lazy cousin... When Wish whispers, “Something is just around the corner,” what comes or not is never what was wished for. When Hope whispers “Something is just around the corner,” something always is. -- Charlie Elberson

My sale thread has some of my underappreciated fragrances looking for a good, new home...

Not as obviously marine as Sel Marin, and it's got something reminding me of Black Aoud.

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and sorry I could not travel both and be one traveler, long I stood and looked down one as far as I could to where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, ...... I shall be telling this with a sigh somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -- I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference. - Robert Frost
