    Default SotD Saturday 11 April

    Good morning!

    Staying with SL Un Lys.

To my great surprise this was the first SL bell jar scent I fell in love with when I tried out the wax samples, and also the first one I got back in 2003. I had been very much into Orientals until then, but this white lily scent stole my heart and made me look at Florals in a different way.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

I'm wearing some dark, thick oud oil from Doha. This unnamed oud from a small perfumer is my favorite of all, with an almost equine note that I haven't smelled in any other oud oil.

Still in Ava Luxe No 23 - I am just LOVING this stuff!
The shouty sheep in the back field have a tiny newborn lamb with them, so that explains the grumpy shoutiness all winter: pregnant. Obviously sheep get as stroppy as I did when I was up the duff.

Ickle tiny baby lamb is seriously sweet and Small has already been up to the field to try to feed it carrots.

Spring is very definitely here in Switzerland.
    Have a lovely day all

The start of a wonderful Easter weekend is asking for an equally wonderful fragrance

    Lalique extrait (original)

Lalique only designed beautiful perfume bottles for other Houses like Coty and Nina Ricci, or empty bottles you could fill yourself.
But in 1992 Sophia Grojsman created the first wonderful fragrance for Lalique and Marie-Claude Lalique designed the bottle called 'Chèvrefeuille'.
    Two talented women created beauty.

The fragrance Sophia Grojsman made is now sadly discontinued.

    Happy Saturday to all

Wearing NR For Her Musc Oil but also testing Angelique Encens again and Sampaquita. From previous testings I remember that Angelique Encens just gets better and better as it develops on my skin throughout the day but there is a detached coolness about this fragrance that keeps me from loving it too much.

Eau de Shalimar. I was craving this today (talking about it the other day put it in my head). And I've layered it with Simon's new perfume in a lotion form (it's a rich, burnt/smoky vanilla scent with a hint of jasmine), so today I'm getting a very different experience from the usual lemon tart of Eau de Shalimar.

Thank you again for all your well-wishes, I am really touched. xxx! (And also cringing a bit at all the "don't forget us when" - 1) as IF, 2) I'm such a newbie and only a student so it's hard to imagine getting carried away; I'll be exceptionally lucky if I ever get a finished perfume out to the shops!).

I'm going with Aqua Allegoria Laurier-Reglisse. It's not exactly what I want. I want something lemony. But I want something with a bit of staying power too. The bergamot top is going to have to be close enough for rock and roll.

    All the lovely choices today!

Cold rainy muddy and not very Springy at all here. NOT what I hoped for as it is a day off. What scent will brighten up slogging around doing errands in the rain?

Probably nothing will help, but ETRO Dianthus may be my best option as I am still in the throes of passion with this one!

I also toyed with Heart of Glass for this morning, but as it is "Temporarily out of stock" I dare not use up my sample before Serena makes up her mind about this one!

    Still raining
More coming (despite the optimistic bleatings of the weathermen - have they even LOOKED at the moving radar?!?!)

So - staying indoors in Viktor & Rolf Antidote. (Thanks SMM!)

After the initial bergamot and herb blast (which reads masculine - but beautifully blended), becomes a lovely spicy floral smoky leather thing.

More wearable for a woman than initially anticipated.

I stood outside in the cold, drizzly rain for 2 hrs this morning, at my son's first soccer game of the season. The most interesting thing occurred with my SotD, that almost distacted me from watching the game, and made shivering in the weather a good experience.

I wore Serge Lutens Douce Amere, and while always a beautiful scent, today in the cold rain it was absolutely stunning. A note came out that I'd never smelled in the fragrance before...a gorgeous mossy note that balanced the sweet, woodiness of the scent.

Perhaps it was the absinthe, or the marigold. For some reason, I never smell the anise in this scent...maybe that's what came out today.... Anyone have suggestions what I was smelling?

Notes: absinthe, cinnamon, anise, lily, jasmine, tiare, tagette, marigold, musk, cedar.

Sunkissed Glow by JLo. A fresh, juicy, edible opening that vanishes in absolutely no time. Pity, since the one and a half minute or so that the top notes lasted was really enjoyable.

Nukapai - I hope and THINK that one day you will have your very own scent out! Your signature "Un petit nez" has had me thinking in this direction, also.

Mmmmmm everyone smells so delicious today; this must be because it's a holiday weekend.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful Passover and a super Happy Easter.

I love my family roots on both sides; on Wednesday evening we had a delicious Kosher chicken for Passover, tomorrow for Easter we are having a marvelous glazed ham with raisin sauce. Talk about having the best of both worlds

Lizzie- I am so happy to see you are back and your mom is healing up. She will be in my prayers.

Chaya- sweetheart, we talked about this; you have to take it easy, stop overdoing. Rest yourself a bit meine Süße, heal up.

Well since it is an icky cold rainy day here; I decided to put on a little Vega (thanks Dimples) for comfort.

Hope the rest of the day will be wonderful, love and hugs for all.

I'm still feeling the buzz of meeting Joss Whedon last night. for the non-geek among you he is the creator of Buffy, The Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly, Dollhouse and Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog. He is one of my personal geek heroes and he was in town to receive an award for secular humanism. Secular humanism is a catch-all which pretty much means non-believer in a religious sense. We had met when he was in town over the Writer's Strike and he came to lead a march in Cambridge. Then it was more walking and going "wow its cold". Tonight I got to exchange a few words with him and he was great and easy to talk to. He went on stage and gave a beautiful talk about what it means to be a non-believer in this country. One of the best passages was when he has been told many times how something he has written has made someone feel amazing. He said he had that feeling for the first time when President Obama mentioned non-believers in his inaugural speech. That a President was including him as an American made him sit up and feel amazing. So he said when you guys say that to me now I know what you mean. He was asked a lot of geeky questions culminating in who would win in a fight River or Buffy? He asked for a show of hands and after River won the vote he said "The blond goes down-sure Buffy can fight but River is programmed to kill." It is nice when your personal heroes live up to that status when you meet them for real.
Anyway it has been a busy day fiull of errands and dodging the, hopefully, last fat snowflakes of winter and I am wearing:
    Parfumerie Generale Querelle

    Have a Serene Saturday everyone.

In L'eau de Circe again, accompanied by a test spritz of Coromandel -- the Coromandel is spicy and rich, but its inky drydown does not seem to be compatible with my skin. Darn, because it is lovely!

Good thoughts to all who need them, and all who don't.

With traces of Bazaar still wafting around (gorgeous sandalwood in the drydown), I sprayed my SotN--Ava Luxe Ambre Tibet.

Sounds like a blast SMM. It's awesome when people you admire turn out to be admirable.
