Default Have you guys ever gotten too "carried away" when buying frags?

I'm pretty sure it must be different with all the senior Basenoters (not calling you old geezers though ; I'm just joshing around, don't mean to insult), because most of you have bigger budgets than I do; but there are some times when I walk into a department store just looking for a sniff, and end up with 3 bottles and an empty wallet.

I kinda feel some buyers' remorse, because I'm a poor college student; but I just LOVE fragrances. My girlfriend is constantly teasing me about my cologne-love.

But still, please do share some of your "Oh damn I think I bought too many" moments here =)

Well, if I were in my senses, I would'nt have gathered 200+ fragrance bottles in just over 2 years.
    Ofcourse I got carried away.

Thankfully most of the time when I get buycrazy it's with minis and small decants, otherwise I might have a far larger collection and far less money

A couple of times I had the extreme joy of getting carried away making purchases. It was when I was buying from an online discount retailer and made the order by phone. The order taker and I joshed around quite a bit and I ordered six or eight bottles, at least half of them blind purchases, and then had to wait the three or four days for the package to arrive. What a joy it was to have gotten carried away one day and reap the benefits a few days later.

Six months later I called again, asked for the same order taker, and made the same six-or-eight bottle carried away mad purchase.

Ached to do it again six months after that, but there was the flat wallet problem.

I mean, I finally found a decent online shop in Mexico; and shipping is free when you order 5 or more frags! So I, being a dumb fragrance aficionado, am actually considering blind buying a lot of new frags.

    Those being:

    Habit Rouge
    Live Jazz
    Terre d' Hermes
    Coriolan

And that's kind of dumb because shipping is only $8 anyway >_<

Not bad selections, Juanamichi. The pleasure of getting a bunch at once is that you have the next four or five days to get through them all for a full wearing. It makes the whole week part of the being carried away.

Why yes, I am in the midst of out-of-control frag buying RIGHT NOW.

    Just received:
    - L'air du Desert Marocain (second bottle)
    - Rocabar (Hermes)
    - Bandit (Piguet) in EdT, EdP, and Parfum concentrations
    - Arpege (Lanvin)

    and just ordered:
    - 3me Homme (Caron)
    - L'Anarchiste
    - Yatagan
    - Mitsouko

and received about 2 weeks ago:
    - Habit Rouge
    - Live Jazz
    - M7
    - Vetiver (Floris)

Several of these are blind buys, and as anyone could predict, I find some of them disappointing/boring, and will sell them ASAP.

Still, it's cheaper than being a drug addict, safer and more lawful. Arguably more fun too.

Wink Re: Have you guys ever gotten too "carried away" when buying frags?

Absolutely, I'm out of hand with frags. To save money, I hit the bargain places, love dumpster diving at TJ Max and Scentiments, even hide new purchases from my wife all in a good way ... it's really my only obsession. I gave up booze and nicotine (sober 4 years) and feel it's okay to have a little fun obsession. I figure there's a lot more worse things that I could be doing.

I felt I got totally carried away when I joined BN and had to get a Creed frag - GIT was all the rage you know, so I dropped a hundred bones. I felt so guilty. I swapped it two weeks later since the longevity on my skin was about an hour. I figured a $100 frag would last at least 10 hours. Big surprise -- I won't ever do that again. Lessons learned.

Well, I once bought a Benetton frag just to get the free shipping.

It was free International shipping, so I ended up spending $3 less.

But it all came back to me when the package hit customs =( Not ordering that many frags in one pack now. (Claimed I was trying to resell 5 lousy bottles, f them)

Yes, this happened to me quite recently. I find it only happens in a physical store, and is not a problem when shopping on line.

Ostensibly I went in to sniff Rive Gauche pH, given its fan base here.

    I came out with:

    Rive Gauche pH
Guerlain Vetiver 125ml - it was on sale
YSL pH Haute Concentration - because it was there (one bottle only)
Terre d'Hermes - the 'limited edition "H" bottle - 100ml - also because it was there and one bottle only

Note to Markymark - big respect on your 4 years. Good work.

Cool Re: Have you guys ever gotten too "carried away" when buying frags?

    YES.

    1. Click on my wardrobe and go to the 'previously owned ' section. There's 109 bottles there only 7 of which I would ever consider re-buying. Why didn't I try decants first?

    2. Saving on shipping charges? That's sane compared to getting an extra frag or two--or three--just because you're at the online site . . .

    Instant gratification, anyone?

I know--3 concentrations of the same frag, and mainly for academic purposes! (I don't know if I could pull off wearing Bandit at all, but I guess I'll find out!)

But I had to! How many online sellers have all concentrations of ANY frag, let alone an old classic one?

    That's nuts!

I've gotten carried away too, but in slightly different context. Oddly, I could keep my temper in a perfume store, where temptation was so strong and so near, yet not on several perfume websites, which I accessed either for information or for buying one fragrance at most and, smitten by the affordable prices (for originals, because all the fragrances sold there where 100% genuine, btw.), I got carried away into buying more and more...

I'm fiscally pretty in control of my habits and vices, but lately i've been buying waayyyy too many frags. These are all my buys in the past month (NO MORE FOR A WHILE!!)

    SAMPLES
I've spent about $150 in samples - all of them 1.5 ml samples.

    FULL PRICED BOTTLES
    Marc Jacobs for Men
    Mure et Musc
    Artisan by Varvatos
    Penhaligon's Castile
    Bulgari pH

BOTTLES FROM DISCOUNT JOINTS LIKE TJ MAXX, etc
    A*Men
    Lolita Lempicka eau Masculine
    Jazz
Tommy Bahama - Both "set sail"s and original
    Dunhill Desire

NOTE - the only full bottle purchase that I regret so far is YSL's Jazz. In my opinion there is absolutely nothing remarkable about it. It just smells like standard 1980's schlock your cheap uncle had on his dresser.

I am buying LAdDM, so I might as well get Incense Rose too. And a Domenico Caraceni Shampoo. And a Scented Candle. And Some samples. And a Shower Gel. I am really getting a heck of a deal here

Andy you need to hit up makeupalley.com and get into swapping all the decants and samples you have tried and don't like :P

I felt a little bad when I came back from London with 5 perfumes and totalled up all the money spent on fumes alone in 3 days.

    Totally frakking worth it though
But once you get locked into a serious perfume collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.

I recently bought the following scents blind (except M7):

    -Alfred Dunhill Edition
    -Alfred Dunhill Pour Homme
-Aramis 900 (this is EdC strenght? wonder what an EDP version would be like ^^)
    -Caron Le 3e Homme
    -Missoni Olympios
    -Rochas Moustache
    -Yves Saint-Laurent M7
-Yves Saint-Laurent Opium Pour Homme Eau d'Orient

The first 4 are kinda in the same league, strong fresh herbal (especially Aramis, jeezus), not my usual type of scent but I might appreciate them.

Olympios and Moustache are tricky bastards, It may take a while for me to really get them.

Eau d'Orient was not really what I expected but good nonetheless.

I think I spend too much money especially when I order a bunch of scents that challenge me like that, but hey I don't smoke and seldom drink so there.

Hahaha, this thread has my name all over it.

The worst is buying colognes just to fill a gap in your collection. I once bought Prada Amber, Givenchy Pi Neo, and Dior Homme Sport all in the same day just to fill out my collection. I ended up returning the first two and traded the last one.

I've tried limiting myself to one fragrance every purchase.
