Default Courvoisier L'Edition Imperiale - a delightful find!

Courvoisier L'Edition Imperiale EDP: A blind buy as usual...i was fascinated and intrigued about this one for a long time and then Jock with scents too reviewed this favorably with few others backing it up.

I received this scent along with a bunch of other scents, but, i chose to try this one first and.... it did'nt disappoint at all! opening accords smell very familiar.. it's very, deliciously gourmandish init's opening notes; think of freshly baked hot cakes with a dash of spices and cognac. it has the same level of stickiness (if you will) as Serge lutens 5'O clock gingerembre (of course, minus the ginger, only the gourmand aspect). They do not smell similar but the spicy gourmand notes are too yummy and at the same time manages to not cross to line and be called foody.

By midnotes cedar kicks up the woody notes with a juicy bite of vetiver(does the vetiver give this one that thin metallic coat). the images of barrels that everyone keeps mentioning? they are so true! one can actually sense that. Exotic notes of woods blends seemlessly with luxurious notes of leather and tea. the use of tea is very familiar. think of it as being inspired by L'Artisan's Tea for two. only difference? in Courvoisier, it's done by blending accords of Tea in a very (classic)oriental structure with Leather, spices and woody notes sharing the dias. What we have even after 7 hours is a luxurious base of glowing amber resting on leather and cedar with mild hints of boozy notes.

For the first time, i have to disagree with the numerous negative reviews/flak this scent has received in the reviews section. it by no means smells cheap and synthetic. i understand from previous threads that this one is now available cheaply, not sure, whatever the case, this one's a keeper.

Jenson...so good to hear you like it. The bottle rocks too right?

Another one that I miss having from time to time.

You know its funny this scent has NO boozy notes in it and NO Cognac notes yet some people claim they detect those notes. I disliked this scent and thought it disappointing but I'm glad some people like it.

    Cheers,

    Yeah, I'm one of those.

The first time I smelled it was at a Bloomingdales and the SA didn't tell me what it was. My first impression was boozy. She laughed, told me what it was, then said there's no booz notes in it.

I thought that was strange for a scent by Courvoisier, but I definitely get a boozy accord.

The scent grows richer, he knows he must be near
He finds a long passageway lit by chandelier
Each step he takes, the perfumes change
From familiar fragrance to flavours strange
A magnificent chamber meets his eye

I loved it. It smells very boozy to me too. If it was cheaper, and I didn't have so many orientals already in my wardrobe, I'd easily own it.

I checked this out on e-bay. A few weeks ago there were bottles available for $50.00. Now the least expensive is $60.00

Hednic..you would've had better luck finding jewels in sea that finding this thread lol

i find it strangely similar to Liquid Karl in many ways. except.. Liquid Karl smells much more smoother and bread like with no boozy accords..

Guys I know it's an old thread and stumbled upon it whilst I saw this on a heavily discounted bottle. As I understand the smell is quite nice but some people have complained about the longevity and projection. What are your views?
