Guerlain Vetiver (a fresh new bottle: again reformulated ?)
Curve Kicks, from a sample. Ick. It tries to be Ulysse and fails; it comes out more like a poor quality version of Insense Ultramarine.
Peggy: "Right now, we have to get to the mental institution. Something terrible has happened."
Peggy: "Brother Boy has tried to kill himself. He jumped out of his bedroom window."
Latrelle: "Isn't he only on the second floor?"
Peggy: "Yes, but he hit his head on a lawn gnome."

Happy Birthday to strollyourlobster! Go stink up the town young man!
I had a good day today. I snuggled a baby, had the Wild Poodles kiss me and went to Saks and spent too much money because of the sale.
Now I'm safely at home and am going to test a host of Parfumerie Generale samples that arrived from Elba this week.
Have a Splendid Saturday everyone.

Gendarme on my chest, Nasomatto Silver Musk on my neck and hands.
HAPPIEST OF BIRTHDAYS, STROLLYOURLOBSTER!!!!
(Please ignore the "engagement" notice... This was the cake that most resembled a lobster going for a walk!)
Hey, Petruccijc, can I please, um, "borrow" the guy from your SoTD ad? TOTALLY yummy.
Today I have been a bit eccentric... went for a great workout in two lovely "inter-seasonal" fragrances for me -- Parfums d'Empire Osmanthus L'Interdite on one wrist and Van Cleef & Arpel's Automne on the other... Then post-workout shower slathered on Bath and Body Works Vanille Noir body lotion.
My poor recovering bunny boys approve of the vanilla... And the boldest has already proved his continued post-neutering butchness by jumping OVER the extra-high gates in our doorways, twice in the last hour.
Van Cleef & Arpel Automne notes: Italian lemon, black currant and red berries, white sandalwood, lily and almond; base notes of heliotrope, cedar wood and musk.
Parfums d'Empire Osmanthus L'Interdite notes: Osmanthus, rose, Sambac jasmine, green Chinese tea, musks, and leather.
Bath and Body Works Vanille Noir notes: Madagascar Vanilla, Dark Vanilla Bean, Black Plum, Bergamot Orange and Warm Musk.

It’s thought that people who hope too much will just waste their life away and never get down to doing any real work. They’re confusing Hope with Wish, its lazy cousin... When Wish whispers, “Something is just around the corner,” what comes or not is never what was wished for. When Hope whispers “Something is just around the corner,” something always is. -- Charlie Elberson

Déclaration Eau Généreuse
Top Notes: Mandarin, Neroli, Coriander, Bergamot, Artemisia, Caraway, Russian Birch
Middle Notes: Cardamom, Black Pepper, Jasmine, Juniper, Orris Root, Iris, Cinnamon, Ginger
Base Notes: Cedar, Vetiver, Leather, Amber, Oakmoss, Tea Notes
This is my favorite version of Déclaration. I think the appeal is that the basic Déclaration idea is translated into an Eau-de-cologne style. The re-balanced citrus and green notes in the top take some of the bitter birch tar edge off the basic fragrance and enliven it just enough to make it a good warm-weather wear. The trouble is that it's nearly impossible to find; but the trade-off is that the bottle I have is huge! Jean-Claude Ellena has done a great job on this one! I find this version of Déclaration very energizing and invigorating. It hangs around just enough, with good sillage, but it's not a one-two punch. With warm weather approaching, I find myself looking forward to the treat of wearing this again.

What a joy it is to wear this fragrance. Others may have other candidates in mind, but from my somewhat limited experience with JCE's work, this may be his finest.

For me a work of fiction exists only insofar as it affords me what I shall bluntly call aesthetic bliss, that is a sense of being somehow, somewhere, connected with other states of being where art (curiosity, tenderness, kindness, ecstasy) is the norm. - Vladimir Nabokov
Andy Tauer's L'air du désert marocain.
Drove up to Oakland to visit a couple I've known for years, who have birthdays a few weeks apart. I got him Antoine Maisondieu's Jasmin et cigarette (smelled great on him, by the way), and found out she moved out a few days after their youngest son turned 18. Oh well. She'll have to wait till next week to get a bottle of Aurelien Guichard's Chinatown.

SOTD: My first test of Palisander by Ava Luxe.
This has been one of the worst ones I've tried since starting up my sampling binge.
It started off with the smell of a cardboard box, with some baby poo in the background.
Later, I smelled butter and a hints of burnt popcorn and smoke.
Eventually, it settled to the smell of a cardboard box full of dirt and a little bit of manure. But a little rubbery, too.
That rubbery note morphed into the plasticky smell of a diaper.
Remarkably, the box of dirt eventually became rosewood. But with the diaper still there.
I already know I'm very sensitive to civet, and it's clear that rosewood doesn't work for me either.
Oh well, at least it was interesting...
