Passion for Men by Elizabeth Taylor

Much better than my last experience wearing it. I've moved it from a 1-star frag back up to 3 stars. Sadly, it progresses to its spicy/sweet base (smells like cinnamon and sugar, with just a hint of woods and a noticeable jasmine presence) all too fast.

It's like a sweeter/darker and far less citrusy version of Antidote. Chop the top off Antidote, add more jasmine and vanilla to it, and you've got Passion.

    Christian Dior
    Jules
    (1980)

Head Notes: Artemisia, Bergamot Oil, Cumin, Green Note, Laurel, Lavender, Wormwood
Heart Notes: Basil Oil, Carnation, Cedarwood Oil, Cyclamen, Jasmin, Rose, Sandal
Back Notes: Amber, Castoreum, Fir, Leather, Moss, Musk, Olibanum, Tonka

One of Dior's great men's scents. Relatively unknown for a while, it dropped below the radar until Dior began to offer it more widely for sale again in the U. S. a couple of years ago. This is a woody, leather (and tobacco?) scent with some unusual green notes in the top. Florals in the heart are kept in low profile by the more assertive notes, but are definitely there and eventually revealed for what they are. The base is woody, mossy, leather, a touch of oriental, and the impression of tobacco. I suspect this is a scent made to please a man. Don't think it would appeal much to many women, though they might grudgingly tolerate on a man they really liked...

I don't understand the negativity towards this one. I find it very pleasant and inoffensive, but lacking in sillage and longevity so you'd probably have to give this a few good spritzes. Just because it doesn't smell black doesn't mean the fragrance is bad =] Slick bottle too!

    Oud 27 by Le Labo
got it from great BNer zr0e (THANKS, JOSH!) who made the split possible.
And that great guy is the reason why I got the perfume in 22 days after launch - in a country that does not carry that brand.

After all, it brought me some compliments immediately. No dirty underwear, no civet blasts, just warm woody-smoky cloud (OK, OK, it smells a bit acrid up close - but nobody would bury his\her nose in my shirt to smell my chest) that is almost non-existent.

Anyway, I do like this LeLabo more than Montales. (But I still would prefer oud oil)

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and sorry I could not travel both and be one traveler, long I stood and looked down one as far as I could to where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, ...... I shall be telling this with a sigh somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -- I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference. - Robert Frost

Hoping for a less gray day on the weather front. At least the temperature is starting to rise a bit.
I was in the mood for some amber this morning and thanks to ScentMother ComDiva I had something to wear:

    Profumum Fiore D'Ambra

I do enjoy my amber centered scents and Profumum has one of my favorites in Ambra Aurea which used amber in a way which brought out its more strong lines. In this 2008 release Fiore D'Ambra chooses to explore the sweeter side of amber and is just as successful as its predecessor. Profumum can be frustrating with their note lists, for instance the note list for this scent is ambre gris and opium. Who knows what that means but it does free one to experience a scent without too many pre-conceived notions of what should be there. Other, than of course, amber which is in the name. From the top the amber is present and this is a sweet amber full and round. It is paired with a lovely sweet incense accord that amplifies the sweeteness of the amber without taking over the scent. The amber persists into the heart where there is a spiciness present but it has a floral character to it which makes me think carnation because there is a hint of clove. Again this is partnered well with the amber as the contrast brings out a different facet of the amber. In the base a soft creamy sandalwood mixes with the amber to finish this off in traditional territory with an accord I've smelled many times before and it feels like coming home as the amber and sandalwood mix together like peas and carrots. Profumum have now done two very different takes on amber and Fiore D'Ambra is every bit as good as Ambra Aurea, to me. If I was to be stuck with only these two scents as my amber contingent in my wardrobe I'd be fine with that.

    Have a Winning Wednesday everyone.
