Interesting, despite some minor errors. "2 Hours: how long a cologne lasts" is going to create confusion. The author meant "Eau de Cologne", as opposed to EdT, EdP etc., but can easily be understood to have meant cologne designating "perfume for men."

    Thanks for the link zz.

This line surprised me, 'Men tend to prefer fragrances that were either worn by their father or smell similar to them...'

Surprises me too. I doubt there's much truth in it, unless they're talking about non-enthusiasts, in which case I guess it's plausible.

Hmmm my dad never wore cologne so I can't comment on this. I do have a soft spot for lavender fougeres though - the father of my best friend while growing up used to wear Capitaine Molyneux aftershave (and another lavender fougere I haven't been able to identify), so now whenever I smell a lavender fougere I can't help thinking of him. I now associate all fougeres with a feeling of fatherly sophistication.

Anyone here on BN actually where exactly what their father used to wear?

I can see the father connection. I do not recall my father ever wearing a scent but his old, nearly empty bottle of Grey Flannel in the bathroom closet inspired my first purchase years and years ago.

I still wear it now, rarely, but I like to think i've made it my own with many more memories now attached to it.

Personally, i identify with the statement. My dad used only Old Spice Aftershave. All our 22 years together it was a defining scent in our home. I will always love Old Spice and bought an EDC just last week.

Old Spice is where it all started for me,
ointments and perfume delight the heart....

Basenoters with over 100 different bottles are going to have very confused kids!

I don't think that line is surprising unless there are "daddy issues". A lot guys I talk to wear Old Spice, Brut, Canoe, Stetson, Polo, hell even Curve now, etc "because my dad wore it".

Cetainly not me, my dad wore/still sometimes wears Quorum. I always found it nauseating, especially in the car. I only like a few select powerhouses.

Late to this again, but great read! booked marked it. Also it would be fun to know how many % wise female frags are worn by men?
