I am wearing
Thread: S o t D - Saturday, 9 May 09
I want a little summer feel today and so I'm in:
Comptoir Sud Pacifique Vetyver Haiti
Vetiver may be the most malleable and used note in all of perfumery. Although bergamot would have a case to make, you rarely find bergamot as the centerpiece of many scents. The many takes on vetiver and the ability for perfumers to find new ways to use it without them all feeling the same makes vetiver-centric scents an ever interesting field to explore. Comptoir Sud Pacifique is really more known for its line of Vanilla centered scents and in 1977 Vetyver Haiti was their attempt to marry their vanilla sensibility to vetiver. At the top lemon and bergamot start with a light citrusy feel. I think I would've preferred a sharper more bitter citrus instead of the bright citrus because the bright citrus there, is quickly overwhelmed by a combination of vetiver and carnation. This mix of the green of vetiver and the spicy clove character of carnation make for a spicy heart. The vetiver stays firmly in place but the spiciness of the clove fades away and the vanilla that Comptoir Sud Pacifique is known for comes in. I was expecting a bracing blast of sweet vanilla as that is the hallmark of the rest of the line. Instead this is a lightly applied vanilla and it comes as a perfect light and sweet contrast to the clove in the heart. This mix of vetiver and vanilla stays finely balanced on my skin for many hours and is a lovely companion for the time it is there. Once again I am happy to find that in a different pair of hands a new aspect of vetiver can be discovered.
Have a Spritely Saturday everyone.

I am wearing
Aqua Allegoria Lavande Velours by Guerlain
We attended the 8th Annual ALS Walk in Miami (my uncle has ALS and it's a condition that is quite crippling over time) and so I needed something that would wear ok in the heat since I sweat a lot and AALV just smells so wonderful in humid weather. I highly recommend it to any fan of lavender scents. Very tenacious, the violets giving it a nice lift in the air all around you. Puffy, solid lavender is the image it gives me.

On my left wrist Ayala Moriel's Indigo, to refresh my memory of what it smells like, and on my right wrist Guerlain L'Heure Bleue parfum, which I'm wearing for the first time. Not liking L'Heure Bleue - it's doing that soap thing some fragrances do on me.

My tastes are changing, I must say. I haven't worn this in years because I didn't like it. I thought I would try it today for some reason, and I understand the appreciation. Not a fan yet, but not disgusted any longer.

Amouage Silver Man - Actually sampled this fragrance today. I think what Amouage tried to accomplish with Silver Man is knock some of the floral notes down of Gold Man and still create a rather elegant fragrance.
They did indeed knock the floral notes of Gold Man down, but Silver Man still wears to floral and a tad feminine for my taste. I think I will pass on this fragrance as well.
EAU DE CAMPAGNE
A thread about it made me have a lust for it - I'm wearing Le Labo Rose 31 for an evening out in Orlando.

L'OMBRE DANS L'EAU
Guerilla 1 by Comme des Garcons (From Sample - Thanks Mike)
Love this. Starts off with a note that vaguely reminds me of pickles, but not really. Some airy floral notes come in later. Good stuff.
I went shopping today and had the chance to meet Yosh Han of Yosh at Barney's.
She's quite nice and younger than I thought she'd be.
So, I'm sampling Yosh.
Right arm: U4Eahh!
It's a mix of pear and melon over aloe. I've been looking for a pear scent that lasts and I think this is it. There's something about how the pear and the melon are quite similar that allows it to keep going for hours. It's bright and nice and the aloe gives it an extra shot of green.
Left arm: Kismet.
Her new exclusive for Barneys is a jumble of notes with dill and hay on top, flowers in the middle, and frankincense in the base. According to her, kismet is like fate - the idea that things that seem unrelated are actually working together whether you know it or not to create whatever fate has in store. Hence, a fragrance of seemingly unrelated elements working together to tell a cohesive story.
The opening was dominated by the dill, while the rest formed a base. Yes, it was pickle-ish, but that faded fast, leaving the dill as more of a tool to keep everything bright. The net effect of everything is sort of a mix of the rubberiness of the frankincense and an unusual, slightly funky tea. She said that this was her more experimental fragrance, but thanks to its natural ingredients, it never really gets as crazy as it could if it used more aromachemicals. Altogether nice, but not really my style...
