Calamus (Series 1: Leaves) by Comme des Garcons
Glancing at todays SOTD posts, it seems that Summer is in full effect all over, and the light, easy-breezy scents are slowly becoming predominant.
I haven't worn Calamus since last Summer and oh, how I missed it. It hits all of my 'green' buttons quite nicely. I can almost feel the hot sun on my face when I put this one on.

Guerlain's Habit Rouge Sport - there's nothing sporty about it to me, it's more the Vetiver pour Elle or Aqua Allegoria version of Habit Rouge - full of jasmine. Not my favourite Guerlain obviously, but quite intriguing - spicy, green ... and not much about the sweet vanilla dust of the old Habit Rouge...
Richard James Saville Row!

Andy Tauer's gorgeous Incense Rose today.

Lonestar Memories by Andy Tauer - I find this possibly the most challenging of Tauer's perfumes. Can't decide if I really like it, but do admire it.

Eau de Pamplemousse Rose by Hermes (from a sample)
Weird, I put on about 7-8 sprays of this, from the manufacturer's sample and the Calamus I wore this morning totally ate this scent for lunch. The EdPR is gone! Wow.

SOTD: My first test of Cereus Pour Femme No. 12
My first thought upon smelling this was that it smelled very corporate by-the-books and workshopped to death even though Cereus is officially a niche company. So I found their website.
Apparently, they're a company that specializes in brand-building and merchandising that just happens to make frags as a sideline and to allow them to test their marketing and product-placement....
With that in mind:
FRUITY FLORAL ALERT!
Officially, the notes are black currant, peach flower, and watermelon. But the combination of the three smells like strawberry-flavored Bonnie Bell Lip Smacker (if you're an American girl or had a little sister, you'd know the smell).
Hours later, a better-than-the-top base of vanilla spiked with rosewood made for a nice finish.
It's super-sweet and would smell cute on a young lady and it's strong enough to work in a nightclub or bar.
Despite my beliefs that anyone can wear anything, this one is pretty much for the ladies.
Surprisingly cool here but chose to wear La Base for Him by Magic Helvetia for the second day. Really nice frag. I forget about it most of the time, but do really like it.

SOTE: My first test of Exceptional... Because You Are.
I have to admit that I really expected this to suck. It's a sample I got with a purchase from Fragrancenet.com - the card is a 20$ off coupon and this has "cheap crappy scent" written all over it, as well as a corny name.
Thankfully, I was pleasantly surprised.
The top was aldehydes & violets, with plenty of indoles intact. The indoles meshed well with a light white musk. A tiny hint of cherry and a bit of soap rounded things out, but the aldehydic florals stole the show. This phase was definitely influenced by the classics and, dare I say, almost Chanel-esque.
Later, a really nice almond note came in, which foreshadowed the base
The base is a nice vanilla almond combo. The violets have faded, leaving the cherry and a bit of aldehydic sparkle.
All in all, I'd actually recommend this to a nice lady looking for a cheap but decent scent. You could do a lot worse for $35. And it's legions ahead of the much-more-expensive Cereus Pour Femme I sampled earlier today...
