Default Michael for Men Vs Tommy Bahama

I've come to Basenotes relatively recemtly (8 months) but have found it fascinating and invaluable when looking at fragrances - quite a few blind buys (Van Cleef & A, Antaeus, Montana Red, Bowling Green, Yatagan) made on the basis of what I've read and, thankfully, I've loved them all.

I've been looking through directory, seeking out a tobacco, letahery scent and bothe Michael for Men and Tommy Bahama seem to fit the bill - to be honest frags I would never have looked at were it not for BN, as I would generally tend to have little regard for more recent releases.

However, both are highly lauded in reviews and in other threads - each having strong boozy, tobacco aspect with maybe differences, from what I can discern, from fruit to spice between the two. Both have apparently good longevity, both come at similar low prices.
Leather (which I love) is not mentioned as a note in either, but seems to be a feature in both at the same time.

So what is the BN view regarding which is better-I would be delighted and grateful; to hear what other BNers think!

I've never smelled Michael (I'm assuming you mean Michael Kors) but I have smelled Tommy Bahama. I don't really get much tobacco in Tommy Bahama, but what I do get is lots of leather. It is a warm scent with leather and spice and maybe a hint of tobacco. It works well in any weather, and it may have a hint of a salty effect which can evoke a sense of the beach. I love it.

    They're very different scents.

TB is very dry wood and black pepper. I wouldn't be the best one to ask about this one as I really hate the fragrance. (Pretty much the only one who does, I think.)

Michael for Men is sweeter and fruitier with a larger mix of spices along with incense. It's really wonderful and I think you should get this one so add my vote.

Er I am equal for both.

They are very different frags if you ask me. Michael Kors is much more tobacco than TB which is spicier and more exotic.

I love and wear both of them. Don't choose, buy both and enjoy!

I have and love them both, TB has an excellent longevity 10 to 12 hrs. ( on my skin ) and great sillage, where as Michael has an average longevity 4 to 5 hrs. and stays close to the skin.

I have actually tried both at the same time. I find them to be really different. I would vote for Michael for Men as the favorite as I find Tommy Bahama to subtle and doesn't last that long on me. Michael for Men lasted for a really long time even after washing my hand. I think there may be some very small similarities in some of the notes but Michael for Men is tuned up and just smells lavish while I find Tommy Bahama to be too subtle and giving off a whimper.

Like Ronin, I find the exact opposite to be true.

I haven't tried Michael, but if it's remotely like the great Tommy Bahama original, I will...

Interesting frug. I absolutely love Micheal Kors for Men. I did however have a bad go with Tommy Bahama. It is my TigerJuice skin once again. I applied four spritzes of TB and nothing, and then later four more spritzes and still nothing. I simply could not get any sillage whatsoever from this fragrance.

However, Michael never disappoints. It is my go to boozy tobacco evening scent. This definitely illustrates how different skin chemistries can make all the difference in how a particular fragrance does or does not play out.

    Best,

    TJ

Michael gets more play? It smells so basic, musk scent like all the other ones. The only drawback with Tommy is that...drumroll....it does not last. I can't stand that in colognes. But its scent is better I think
