Default Starting over, need some suggestions!

Hello everyone, first time poster here.

I haven't worn any cologne in quite some time (try a few years or so...) because I wasn't sure what to look for and I hadn't really settled on any fragrances that I liked. Everything that I tried always had that overbearing, watery 'aqua' smell. However, I recently decided to give it another shot after trying a few scents that I was quite fond of.

I'm looking for a couple colognes to start off with for S/S and to a lesser extent, F/W. I'm only 23 but I like the more mature smelling fragrances that have a soft, vanilla/woody (and maybe chocolate..yum) type smell. Although, I'm really not sure which colognes work with what seasons. When it comes to fragrances, I like them to be noticeable but subtle and to last throughout the day.

Can any of you guys and (especially..) gals give me some good suggestions?

    Thanks

As I read this topic.. a "younger" guy.. loving chocolate and vanilla.. there's only one DIOR HOMME.. Contains cacao.. aswell as vanilla with a touch of leather aswell.. That's a must try for every guy, haha

    Give A*Men a sniff, too.

If you're into sweeter woody/oriental fragrances I'd also suggest M7, Chergui, and (if you want REALLY sweet) Ambre Sultan.

Vanilla and wood? Go for super-cheapo Adidas Victory League.

You might like Guerlain Heritage. Amber, woods and spices with a lovely, slightly sweet tonka drydown.

Thanks, all of these sound like they're what I'm looking for.

Are any of these suitable for F/W as well or are these mostly for S/S?

Give A*Men/B*Men a shot. Vanilla/woody could be Jaipur Homme.

I can't speak for A*Men as I've never tried that one.

Most people around here would classify M7 and Ambre Sultan as Fall/Winter scents - they can be very strong, heavy fragrances. However, I find that they work fine in spring/summer if applied lightly. It was about 85 degrees here today and I wore M7 - worked great.

Chergui is more of a skin scent (on me) so I wouldn't have any problem wearing that any time of year.

Thanks for all of the suggestions guys, I'll try them the next time I'm out. Also, where would be the best place to buy Chergui? Seems like it's only available if you import it and hard to find...

Vanilla, woody and a little sweet = L'Occitane Eau des Baux. It's versatile and easy to wear, but deliciously complex and unique. And, as L'Occitane stores keep popping up here, there, and everywhere (check their website), easy-ish to find.

Eddie: Sweetie, what are you drinking?
Patsy: Oh, this? Chanel No. 5.

I think A*Men is basically an exclusive winter scent, it's pretty cloying. It can be used (lightly) in the summer, however.
