Default I received a paper strip samples of CSP`s 4 oud fragrances.

    http://www.comptoir-sud-pacifique.com

Yes, they said these fragrances are not available in liquid samples. But they were kind enough to send me these paper strips.
It’s not the same as we know, because perfumes should really be tested in liquid form but what I can tell from these blotters…

    Aoud de Nuit:

This is a really sweet oud fragrance. Very, VERY akin to scents like Montale`s Red Aoud, Micallef`s Night Aoud & Rose Aoud.
Despite the complex pyramid its just a simple and very strong blend of rose, saffron, iris and oud.
    Very feminine.

    Aouda:

This is a cousin of Comme des Cargons Sequoia. Also Burberrys London for Men comes to mind. Semi-sweet, warm, fruity red wood smelling. Much more unisex than the previous one. Balsamic and very woody aromatic. I can’t detect that much of oud wood, though.

    Nomaoud:

This is by far the most oud-ish blend of these four. It reminds me a lot of Montale`s Steam Aoud; this is a bit more sweet though. Not as sharp and a bit more rounded.
On a strip this is 80% of oud wood.

    Oud Intense:

This one is a real nostril burner. An extremely sharp and spiky cedarwood planks layered over the cloud of pepper .Only a slight touch of antiseptic oud underneath.

I will test these in liquid form when possible but, what I can tell now is that these are very well made scents, and they differ from each other very much.
One shouldn’t stare too much of those pyramids though, because they are very misleading at the end of the day.

Interesting stuff. I think Nomaoud is the most compelling, but Aoud de Nuit would be my choice if I had to pick one because I haven`t got anything of that kind in my wardrobe and I love the way it is presented in that chocolate brown aluminium bottle.

sounds interesting, as well as the fact that they are branching away from vanilla.

    have they announced pricing yet?

For sale: Armani Prive (Cuir, Jade), Yves Rocher, Artisan Ambre body cream http://community.basenotes.net/showthread.php?t=228894

Aoud de Nuit sounds very promising to me
But once you get locked into a serious perfume collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.

I tried them all when I was in Paris in April. I actually found one of them very nice and potentially bottle worthy. I don't remember the name now, but I remember it being extremely close to Micallef's Aoud Gourmet.

I'd love to try them all. I hope Naz stocks them so I can ask her for samples next time I shop at TPS. If Aoud de Nuit lands at discounters at something around $35, and is relatively close to the $210 Aoud Gourmet -- then I'm in!

At an FRP of 75 Euros (105 USD), I think I'd much rather add in a little more and go for the Montales.

It is quite amazing how strong these strips really are after many days of traveling first, and then few days in my possession. I received them last Friday and I still can smell them clearly and in fact I have been impressed how well they come out of this paper. I`m really not used to test fragrances but on my very own skin; perhaps I should give a bit more room for this paper strip testing in the future....

I have resolved that Nomaoud is my personal favourite (it really is interesting) while I would pick Aoud de Nuit for my girlfriend since I find it a tad more femine for my personal use due to its caramel sweet flower-saffron-oud charachter.

I have mailed them again asking if they can tell me who is/are the perfumer(s) behind these creations; I`ll let you know if they will reply.

    That's pretty sad.

These oud scents sound desperate now...

Okay, these four fragrances were blended by Jacques Lions and Claude Broggi. They work right in here: http://www.expressions-parfumees.com/index_en.php.htm

The Comptoir Oud fragrances are finally available in the US, as they have just been added to www.lushoasis.com If you click to purchase, it allows you to pre-order via email. E-mail Susan@lushoasis.com for more information or to purchase one of the fragrances!
