Default Raising a future generation of Basenoters

My kids are always mesmerized when I get a new fragrance in the mail... partly due to daddy's excitement but also because they have become accustomed to trying out daddy's new "smellgood"... Call it whatever you want, but I have tried my best to have my children appreciate smells, sights, sounds, and every possible other beauty their little lives have to offer... I took this picture after a "small" sampling

This s the CUTEST THING EVER!

My son tells me, "MOM!! STOP sniffing your wrist!". I guess he doesn't have the "gene"!

    Thanks for that total sweetness!

That is seriously fantastic. Great pictures, decillisjl... Thanks for sharing them with us! What fragrance are they sampling in the photo? My nephews are really curious about fragrance and I think kids in general are really open minded to these kinds of things, smelling spices, tasting different things, smelling flowers... One of the favorite reactions I've gotten was when my nephews, sister, and I sampled Dzing! together. Fun!

    Very cute!
My girl is almost 12 now but she's been sharing my love of fragrance since she was very tiny. It's a joy to share it with her. I often joke around that she's much more knowledgable than most SA's we run into.
Looks like your kids are having fun!

Gracie is sampling Egoiste, which she says smells like "lots of really pretty flowers" while Jakob is sampling C&S Frankincense and Myrrh, which he says smells like, I kid you not "grampa's church. daddy are you going to give them money soon?" I guess they already have the olfactory synonyms ready... they are going to be amazing reviewers once I teach them how to type

CUTE! right now I'm quite succesfully raising a older generation of fragrance lover you see my parents hated fragrance before I started to work on them it was tough and it took quite a long time but the pay out was great now they love fragrance

but my little sister who's seven recently developed a love of fragrance one day when I took her into Barney's she loved the Le Labo Pachoulli, Dityque Phikolos, L'artisan Dzing, L'Ambre and Vouler de Rose, Annick Goutal Eau D'hadrien, and a ton of Commes Des Garcons so maybe we have another little fragrance lover in our mist (as long as her older sister can continue to brainwash her, but I don't mind her liking fragrance just because I like it plus it helps us have some sister bonding time)

Thanks for introducing us to your family, decillisjl.

It is so much nicer (and easier) to enjoy your hobby when you can share it with those closest to you.
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and sorry I could not travel both and be one traveler, long I stood and looked down one as far as I could to where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, ...... I shall be telling this with a sigh somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -- I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference. - Robert Frost

Nice thread and very cute pics bro. It's pretty cool to involve your kids in your own hobbies if they're interested.

Big thumbs up for the rookie sniffers.

I tip my hat to you, I'm truly glad that the wonderful traditions and passions of the basenoters (mainly involving scent) are not going to be endangered or extinct pretty soon.

    Those are such beautiful pictures!

My daughter is 16months old now and seems to like a couple of scents above others. I'd like her to grow up curious and enthusiastic about scent and smell.

Well, are they aware of the fact that each and every single bottle of scent would cut their toy expense?

That's adorable! My 3 yr old nephew/godson also loves testing out my scents. Every now and then, we'll both check out my drobe and he'll pick a SotD. So far his favorite is Central Park by Bond no.9

Kudos to you for opening up your children’s horizons! It’s almost never too early to expose your kids to expanding their senses…it gives them more intelligence and certainly more pleasure, and what is more important in life than teaching them to appreciate a wider world of the arts.

Your kids will have the advantage of being able to differentiate between something larger than the ‘chocolate-Koolaide-poo’ scope of most kid’s aromatic repertoire. Boy, they’re cute!

OMG, What a cute kids! And great pics!
Looks like they love to smell something new together!

Let me share my paternal pride too
My son is almost 2 years old, and he always paid a great attention to my wardrobe - I spend every morning choosing what to wear as SOTD.
He tried to get any bottle he could reach to.
But when he gave me his hand in manner I should spray - I just melted.
Almost he got me in tears.

Well, I spray a little of HIS COLOGNE (Marlen, thank you! We got more since your send me baby cologne - like Tartine et Chocolate, for example) on his elbow. And he smelled and said Ahhhhh! I was ecstatic!
And nobody had taught him about that!!!

Now he takes my hand and brings me to wardrobe in order to spray him - every time we go out.
And smelling every flower in forest\garden become usual for us two. Narcisses, birdcherry trees, daffodils, prune trees, - everything!
(And no - he still unaware about castoreum and civet. But he likes indolic narciss smell.)
    Vetiver The Great!!!

I think this is one of my favourite threads of late, I think it's really lovely.

I managed to get my kids into Shakespeare when they were 8 and 5 years respectively.

Have failed totally to motivate my son thus far who is now coming up for 15, into heavy metal (good lad!) and not even vaguely interested in fragrance.

My daughter on the other hand is well on the road - although she spends most of her money on partying, as she should as an 18 year old. However, she wears the Mallabah I bought her and loves the attention she gets when she wears it, since it doesn't smell like any of the typical fare that young women are marketed at by the fragrance industry.

I suspect I have a latent perfumista on my hands there though, since she always asks me what I am wearing...
In a world where people smell bad, it is the personal responsibility of every Basenoter to improve the world one SotD at a time...
