Day #33 SIHNWIAY
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and sorry I could not travel both and be one traveler, long I stood and looked down one as far as I could to where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, ...... I shall be telling this with a sigh somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -- I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference. - Robert Frost

I love Jasmine.
Cuir Pleine Fleur
Top Notes: Violet, Bergamot
Middle Notes: Acacia, Hawthorn, Suede
Base Notes: Birch, Atlas Cedar, Vetiver
"Cuir pleine fleur" is the French term for the highest quality leather. This scent is really quite a good leather, using birch and suede notes carry the leather impression, and supplementing and supporting them with rather green-tinged florals (violet and mimosa). Vetiver in the base gives this a good anchor for longevity and a decent sillage. It is really rather captivating, recalling somewhat such famous and classic suede-leather scents as Tabac Blond and Cabochard. A definite keeper!

(Zagara - for anyone who might be wondering, is Neroli (or Orange Blossom) ...
And it comes as a 20% extrait. .... (And I might add that Dr.Vranges "Vetiver e Poivre" (Pepper) is almost even better !

Vintage Antaeus. And it's wonderful.
The newer version is an OK approximation, but lacks most of the depth and richness of the original. If I had never worn the original, I probably would've been satisfied with the reformulation.
Serge Noire, again. Trying to decide if it's FBW.
I think 10ml or so of this scent would last me a loooong time, so I don't really think I need a full bottle. TPC's 8ml price is a bit ridiculous, though.

Have I told you about the scent of jasmine? Have I spoken about the smell of the sea? The earth is scented. And I perfume myself to enhance what I am. That's why I can not wear a perfume that bothers me. Perfuming is an instinctive wisdom. And like all art, it requires some knowledge of yourself..."

It is going to be a pouring rainy day at Stately Somerville Manor and I wanted to wear another powerful scent today and another bottle that I recently acquired from scentemental's massive sale:
Cartier Le Baiser du Dragon
You know how you buy a book for the cover? The paperback with spaceships in battle, swarthy lotharios, sandaled warriors with big...ahem..swords? Every once in awhile I try a scent because of the name. The nice thing about most scents is you get to try without buying, unlike the paperback that ends up half-finished collecting duston a bedside table. Le Baiser du Dragon was created in 2003 by Alberto Morillas, by some accounts it was supposed to be a feminine vetiver. If that was the goal he failed. Instead Sr. Morillas has created a powerful woody oriental which seems much more apt to be named after a dragon that any feminine vetiver could have been. The top is a beautiful syrupy almond accord paired with neroli. The lighter aspect of neroli balances out what could be a very heavy almond accord. There is a little bite of green in here as well which the note list would make me think is gardenia but this is a gardenia that never comes into full bloom on my skin. The heart is all clean cedar in its straight-edged glory. There is a little musk present to muss up the staid cedar but not enough to make it uncomfortable. The base of this is a really lovely patchouli and amber mix; as in the heart the amber is there just to keep the patchouli from being all that you smell. It is in the base that there is supposed to be some vetiver but I've worn this scent many times in many different temperatures and have yet to encounter this vetiver, perhaps the dragon ate it for lunch. I might have bought Le Baiser du Dragon for the title but unlike those dust gathering paperbacks I look forward to picking this one back up.
Have a Fantastic Friday everyone.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CASTORPOLLUX!!!
My multiple-day work event was useful, informative, and exhausting. Fortunately I got to re-energize with made-from-scratch limeade and fabulous company last night. Being a greedy wench, I want more!!! (Company, even though the limeade was good...)
Wearing Chanel 31 Rue Cambon. Described as an "oakmoss-free chypre," I think it's plain old beautiful.
It’s thought that people who hope too much will just waste their life away and never get down to doing any real work. They’re confusing Hope with Wish, its lazy cousin... When Wish whispers, “Something is just around the corner,” what comes or not is never what was wished for. When Hope whispers “Something is just around the corner,” something always is. -- Charlie Elberson
My sale thread has some of my underappreciated fragrances looking for a good, new home...
Cross-posting for birthday wishes:
Working half day today. Off at noon to grocery shop and errand run. SOTM: Andy Tauer's Incense Rose. I rubbed some jojoba oil on my wrists to make sure it lasts longer!
Yesterday's SOTE: the nose-tickling aldehydes of White Linen. Haven't worn that one in a looong time. Makes me nearly sneeze after applying.
Whilst on my walk yesterday, I had a close encounter with a skunk. Came within about 2 feet of me. As we live on a country dirt road surrounded by wheat fields, I usually see numerous birds, squirrels, bunnies, cows, and other local denizens, but this is my first with a skunk. I would hate to think of smelling like Pepe le'Peu this morning! Not the kind of smell I want to wear all day.
Beautimous Birthday Howdies to Castorpollux!
Raining today, and it looks like we're not going to get much done in the way of heating and air service unless it clears up. Yuck.
Have a wondrous day, all
