    Default Throw out that Zicam!

According to the news, the FDA is forcing the sales of the product to be halted due to a side effect- anosmia, which can be permanent

Which was actually first posted here: http://community.basenotes.net/showthread.php?t=230542

Nevertheless, this is important (probably moreso to this community than elsewhere) and i'm glad to see it's spreading fast.

This only concerns the Zicam that is sprayed or swabbed directly in the nose. My GF actually lost her sense of smell for about 3 months using it.

Zicam also makes a throat spray and lozenges with no danger of loss of smell.

And I SWEAR by Zicam! My colds never last more than 3 days when I use it.

Each step he takes, the perfumes change
From familiar fragrance to flavours strange

There are lots of zinc based lozenge products for colds. I too find them to be helpful

    Very true.

Actually I've been using the CVS brand at 30% less. Equally effective.

Stuigi rang the warning bell about the dangers of Zicam in early 2006 in post #3 in this thread:

The tablets are amazing though, greatly reduces the intensity and duration of a cold, I will try out the CVS one next time since its cheaper.

I experienced temporary anosmia (a couple of days) from taking Mucinex. I won't be doing that again!
