    Default Holy Grail Citrus Award

I have been working out and to mix it up a bit to shock my body so it doesn't get use to the same routine, I recently took the martial arts back up. I have been trying to loose weight so I am finding new and exciting ways to keep it fresh. I thought the martial arts might be worth doing instead of hot yoga per se.

Anyways, I wore a very well known green woody citrus to training tonight and it was magic! I can't think of any situation where this isn't perfect. Whether you do marital arts, work out at the gym, rake leaves, study, scratch the nether regions, marlin fishing, sky diving, or what have you, my holy grail citrus award that is worthy of praises upon high, goes to........Eau D' Orange Vert by Hermes! There is simply no better citrus in my book! So which citrus does your award go to?
Is the juice worth the squeeze?

    I love Neroli Sauvage.

Better buy a flacon though because you need to bathe in it.

Jean Marie Farina Extra Vieille holds that place of honor for me. I just love the rose note - very masculine!

Eau D'Orange Verte is incredible, agreed.
If we're talking strictly magic and beauty and quality, with longevity not meaning a thing...Citrus Biggarade, Guerlain Imperiale, and Eau D'Orange Verte are way up there. Neroli Sauvage, for the first 10 seconds, before the lemon terpenes fade, is INCREDIBLE, but it's too sweet after that for me.

But I facor in longevity, so my top 3 citrus grails are:
    Concentre D'Orange Verte
    Selection Verte
    Maitre's Eau Pour Le Jeune

Honorable mention shout to Miller Harris Tangerine Vert

I have tried EdOV and would like to get a bottle at some point - it's just a classic. I have worn Acqua di Parma for 15+ years so it is my reset mode HG. I recently discovered The Different Comapny Bergamote. It's pretty 'single minded, single note' and fleeting but I keep a bottle at the office as a wake up call. I scored their 250 ml 'Estagan' at a good price online (lusciouscargo) which is aluminium and touted as 'gym bag friendly'. Pricy for an EdC but really refreshing.

Guerlain's Eau Imperiale is a keeper, but I would also vote for Eau de Fleurs de Cedrat. That one is on my top 5 to-buy list. I'm not a big fan of straight-on orange, but Fleurs de Cedrat hits just the right balance.

My holy grail citrus is Selection Verte, I guess... I'm not a big citrus fan to begin with.

    3. Eau de Campagne

I'm not the world's greatest citrus fan, but I'd have to split my vote between Bahiana and Citrus Paradisi, with Eau de Fleurs de Cédrat and Czech & Speake Neroli close behind.

I definately will pick up Guerlain's imperial one day. I forgot about that one. EDOV lasts on me for whatever reason. I don't like the concentree as much because the papaya note, to my nose, it too prominent and not as balanced. Selection vert by creed is nice as well but when I use to wear it, it could get cloying at times on me.

I'm not a big fan of citrus either, mainly because real citrus fragrances are relatively straightforward and a bit boring. That's why I like AdP Colonia and Mona DiOrio Lux, because they transition into something else so I can get a citrus fix first and then a bit more interesting fragrance afterwards.

Call me crazy, but Versace PH.

I get a wonderful tart citrus opening, a beautiful sage sweetened with florals (hyacinth?), a very nice oud/cedar stage that smells *very* remeniscent of Let Me Play the Lion, and then a light dry/warm mineral note with just a tiny hint of sweetness. I find it must be sprayed on exposed skin to fully appreciate it as when sprayed only on the chest some of the details are lost.

Honorable mentions to AdP Colonia, Homme Des Gres, and Lemon EdT.

I am arriving at the conclusion that the Holy Grail of Citrus scents is:

    Chanel Eau de Cologne.
    Current Top Five:

    1. Creed Green Irish Tweed
    2. Tom Ford Neroli Portofino
    3. Hermes Concentre d'Orange Verte
    4. Bond No. 9 New Haarlem
    5. Creed Original Vetiver

Of course, no edt can surpass a true cologne when it comes to the beauty of citrus, for colognes submit to the very effervescence and brightness that makes citruses so attractive in the first place. My own vote goes to Imperiale. However, for what I think of as a 'fortified citrus', I have found nothing better than Blenheim Bouquet. The citrus top is remarkably refreshing - and combines most enjoyably with the pine below it.
