Wink Complice - Update - OPEN the TRUTH comes out!!!!!

Complice by Coty has almost no paper trail.

It seems to have entered into the witness protection program.

So do I open it & take my chances on discovering a treasure or sell it on?

Yes, that is what I was just able to find. I think that was the Ebay 'Fine Gifts' site where I bought it. Is that where you saw it?

I guess, if that's correct, I can see why I bought it. I must have read something along the way that made me wonder if it was going to turn out to be more of a powdery floral.

Thanks for your help. I'm seriously thinking I might as well open this bad boy up and do some reportage.

I am not sure where I found that info. I just googled the name of the frag. I don't remember it being ebay but there were other frags. there and they even offered to find rare stuff for you. Anyway, open that mysterious bottle and let's have a report. I think I am as excited about this as you are. Looks pretty snazzy for a Coty product. Old school thought about quality I guess. Too bad that went the wayside with the fragrance firms these days. Some of Laliques bottles are beautiful but, so pricey. There I go rambling again. Put the bottle in front of you and....open open open. Destiny has chosen you to open it.

I wish PurpleBird were here, but she's off on an adventure, so I'll have to go it alone

Certainly not! (I think beer goes well with chopped liver, doesn't it?)

So I opened it! and I think it's the real thing, because it burned a little when it hit my skin. I've noticed sometimes the older vintage frags do. Must be the SCARY chemicals in there.

The first thing I get is a light soapiness & some spice. It must be bergamot & the peach. I'm waiting for further development. I've had it on for about 5 min. It's light, pleasant, even delicate, but luckily, not especially powdery so far.

It is turning out to be a somewhat powdery version of 'Mitsouko'. There is a definite oakmoss base under the peachy spice. But I'm thinking this was definitely inspired by Mitzy. It is a little bit more 'girly' than the Guerlain version but still wearable for me.

kumquat: OK girl! Now you know how to really hurt a guy. You know that Mitsouko is my holy grail. You have real oakmoss in there too. I am speechless. This is like being on the cell phone with you while you are opening King Tuts' tomb, waiting for news of the furnishings.

The other influence I'm getting here is the old formula (from the 1960's) Arpege.

the only problem is that this is only 1/4 oz. I'm sure this couldn't have been such a high-priced item when it came out.

da da da d a d.....update I'm really liking this stuff after all! Jackpot!

From Perfume Intelligence, this is the other perfume of which I'm strongly reminded.

Created by André Fraysse and Paul Vacher; with over 60 natural ingredients; a floral aldehyde parfum with top notes of bergamot, neroli, coriander, clove and peach; heart notes of Grasse jasmine, Bulgarian rose, ylang-ylang, camellia and lily of the valley on base notes of ambries, benzoin, musk, sandalwood and vetiver, classified B5 f.
Named after the musical term ‘arpeggio’ in honour of Jeanne Lanvin’s only daughter Marie-Blanche, a talented pianist.
Presented in a glorious Art Deco orb flacon designed by Armand-Albert Rateau and made by Verrières Brosse.

The difference between this (Arpege) and the Mitsouko influence, is the peach. This frag is all about peach. It has powdery aldehydes though, which takes me back to Arpege. It's great, because in my minds eye I can see my mother getting dressed up to go outt to dinner, smelling fantastic. This was the one perfume she wore. It was in a black metal can with a flared, flat top & gold trim. Appropriately, the logo, is of a mother with a child at her knee. I never noticed that at the time.

P.S. this frag has been EVISCERATED: impossible to get any Arpege-like sensibility from the stuff they sell now.
