Sample of the Day: Le Labo Patchouli 24

For the first half hour, everything is as the reviews describe - from just a small amount comes smoky birch tar and leather with only a touch of vanilla. An hour later, a bitter woodsy patchouli. Unless the next test turns out better, chalk this one up as Not For Me.

My Indian Childhood by D.S. & Durga (from a sample)

Less a fragrance, more like a place you might visit full of smells that you've never encountered before. Something like vegetable wax, like the kind in certain hair pomades...but then a lot of other body/skin smells. Fascinating. I thought this would smell like Arabie and/or L' Autre, yet it is nothing like these. It's an entirely new smell to my Western nose.

    1. Tested vintage Joy EDT vs. Eau de Joy in the morning- a lot of fruity marmelade in the first one (delicious) and too much cats in another. Just too vintage.
    2. Desperately deciding what to put on - Chypre Rouge and Cedre were in my mind, but the weather was just too hot (plus I don't know if I have Chypre Rouge - probably there is a small sample somewhere).
    3. Finally put Bulgary Black on.
    4. The evening - I spent it in the clouds of Balmain de Balmain - suddenly completely attracted to its chypre dry out.

The first wearing from several samples. This is one of the last Amouage fragrances left for me, so I am going to be sure to provide it with a few complete wearings before writing it off as I have done with the other fragrances from this house.

As of yet, I still have no clue what I was wearing yesterday as it was a Vial X Stereotomy sent me! It smelled like T42 with a very creamy vanilla character, but as it settled it also incorporated some herbaceous notes and incense. Furthermore, he hinted that it was marketed towards men and came in a brown bottle. Help me! :P
