Talking Fragrances released the year you were born...

Was browsing through the directory, and noticed that I don't own one fragrance that was released the year of my birth...although two greats came out: Eau d'Orange Verte and Nahema (1979 btw).

Anyone else have a bottle of their own personal vintage?

Cool Water and Fahrenheit from 1988. I don't own either, although Chez Bond is broke from CW's mold.

On't own a fragrance from 1987, although I've sampled Bois du Portugal by Creed, which is from 1987.

I don't own any from my birth year either (1970). Although Equipage by Hermes has been on my to-buy list for a while now.

We did a thread like this on the ladies' side. I'm with Griff, and I plan to buy a bottle of Poivre for my 55th birthday in October. It is gorgeous! If you like carnation and pepper, try it. Griff, do you have a preference for one concentration or the other?

Royall Lyme by Royall Lyme of Bermuda (1957). Oddly enough, I was born in that year, then moved to Bermuda at the age of 3 months. So the scent was concocted a few miles from where I was living at the time.
A linear lime smell that is refreshing but does not last very long. My father died a long time ago - I wonder if he ever wore this stuff?

A lot of stuff I've never heard of, of course (it was soooo long ago); but three notable ones:

    Carven Ma Griffe, a true classic green floral in its original formulation;

Jean Patou L'Heure Attendue, a beautiful scent released to celebrate the end of the terrible war; and

Victor Silvestre (for men, unlike the above-mentioned two), that piney-fresh wonder that breathed new life into the loony old saw that "girls smell like flowers; boys smell like trees."

The year, by the way, was 1946 — the war that had just ended was the Second World War. (Coughs into his fist.)

Russisch Leder was launched by Farina Gegenuber in 1967 - and I still haven`t it in my collection!!!
Also Pagan (Picot), Miss Balmain, Hai Karate, Gentilhomme by Weil, Balafre by Lancome...

And the only perfume I tried from 1967 is Climat Lancome (I found it to my mother in law as it brings her nostalgic memories)

Great to know we are coevals (???) i.e. of the same age.

Basenotes directory shows 42 releases in 1975; nothing particularly interesting there (apart from Diptyques and Captain Molyneux) but, I have a Grey Flannel by G.Beene in my collection and although directory shows it was released 1976, I am almost 100% certain that it was actually released originally in 1975. (it did win a FiFi award 1976)

    Yep!

I was pretty disappointed in the number of releases, too, Lancôme Balafre is the one that sounds most interesting.

1962 must have been a busy formulation year for some perfumers, as Kiehl's Musk and CD's Diorling were released the following year. Some consolation for us

A search on the year 1956 in the Basenotes Directory shows only feminine fragrances. It apparently wasn't one of the better years for perfumes, but at least Diorissimo was released then.

The next most interesting one is Primitif, by Max Factor. Other than that, there were a few by Prince Matchabelli and Avon.
