Christine Nagel creates Encre Noire Pour Elle

Basenotes readers have spent years wearing fragrances because they love them and not because the marketing campaign defines them as masculine or feminine.* Well now it seems that you have been rumbled! Realising that women across the world have been claiming Encre Noire for their own, luxury house Lalique has used the vetiver based fragrance as the starting point for new feminine offering, Encre Noire Pour Elle.

Ooh, I can't wait! Thanks for bringing this to the FFD Grant (I should read the BN.net main page for often ).

So it seems as if the masculine was very successful for them to consider a feminine counterpart to a masculine scent (it's usually the other way around)?

It sounds like a classic...like My Sin or some other early 20th century floral with a dark, woody base and a little bit of amber.

Handwringing and other nervous tics indeed! I thought I quite liked the men's version, but the last time I tried it on skin it did the oddest thing about 30 minutes in. It turned into a dead ringer for this stuff:

(I imagine only my fellow Dutch BN'ers will know the actual drink, but you get the gist, no? Not good.)

Perhaps the new feminine will perform better on skin AND be equally interesting.
It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely products of a deranged imagination.

I'm giddily wringing my hands right now! Seriously -- I've heard so much about the original that this is exciting. I will want to try both versions. Thanks for the news, Grant!

Finally I can have the privilege of saying the female-marketed fragrance isn't a scratch on the men's original. (But I'm betting it'll be pretty good.)
