Vetiver - Guerlain
Wishlist is pointless.
Guerlain's Nahema PdT. Normally, a perfume acts like an explosion, going from intense to quiet, but Jean-Paul Guerlain felt inspired by the insistent rhythm of Maurice Ravel's one-movement orchestral piece "Boléro" to try to reverse this order. He later revealed that it took him over five hundred attempts to find a satisfying composition giving off a gradually more and more obsessive olfactory presence of rose, like a slow motion plunge into a huge bed of wet, wax-textured roses encircled by bergamot, mandarin and peach to give tangy nip, tonka bean and sandalwood for a honeyed glow, and dry vetiver as anchor.

Continuing to test scents I could possible buy on our SF meet-up, I'm (finally) testing Philosykos by Diptyque.
In my mind, I can't help but compare this to the other famous fig scent, Jo Malone's Wild Fig & Cassis, which I didn't particularly care for. Thankfully, Philosykos does away with the odd milky aspect which makes the Jo Malone more realistic but less wearable for me, and replaces it with notes of wood and blanched almond which make this much more artful and wearable. The base, oddly, is pure taragon. To the point where I was wondering if someone next door was making a bernaise sauce until I realized it was me...
At this point, a definite maybe. I'm just honestly not sure how much I'd ever actually wear this...

For me a work of fiction exists only insofar as it affords me what I shall bluntly call aesthetic bliss, that is a sense of being somehow, somewhere, connected with other states of being where art (curiosity, tenderness, kindness, ecstasy) is the norm. - Vladimir Nabokov

Today's SOTE was Bond No 9 Bryant Park.
I have to say that the first five minutes of this were kind of nasty, but the rest has been quite nice.
The first blast was violets, aldehydes, and a weird musty moldy mess that quickly settled into a decent mix of rhubarb and raspberry, with just a touch of lily, mostly for the green. The rhubarb faded over time into a confident (though quiet) mix of rose and patchouli. This isn't the luxe, sticky mix used in the Tom Fords, but a quiet combination meant to combine with the raspberry, creating an interesting fruity floral.
Perfectly nice (except for the first few minutes), in a fruity floral way, and not derivative. This seems to be Bond's formula for their feminine scents - nothing edgy or new, but completely wearable, if you're into that sort of thing.
