Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and sorry I could not travel both and be one traveler, long I stood and looked down one as far as I could to where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, ...... I shall be telling this with a sigh somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -- I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference. - Robert Frost

I'm cheating and putting my Saturday SOTD's in the Sunday thread because they're cool and I want people to actually read them...
I went shopping today, so I'm testing four SOTD's.
Left Wrist: By Kilian Pure Oud
I smelled this on a strip on vacation in New York and wasn't very impressed, but I can now see that this has to be worn to be appreciated. It's oud, but with the grossness taken out. Gone is the moldy-abandoned-hospital smell. Gone is the feces. Yes, it's clearly been "dumbed down," but what's left smells great. It actually reminded me a lot of Tom Ford's Tuscan Leather, but smoothed out and less potent, with oud poured over it. The base is a mix of oud and peppery cedar. Expensive, yes, but it smells really good.
Left Arm: The new Côte d'Amour by L'Artisan Parfumeur.
Really salty, peppery boiled celery. It's trying for fresh, but missing it by a mile. Oddly, hours later it's kind of fruity and sweet, but so faded I can't discern what it's trying to be. It would take a really heavy application to make this sing, but I wouldn't want to sit through a heavy dose of that mushy celery.
Right Wrist: The upcoming Jasmine Musk from Tom Ford.
The top was really interesting: bright, fresh jasmine, paired with what I think was some sort of citrus over a deep, interesting musk. Unfortunately, this faded really quickly to that generic musk they use in plain white soap. So I now smell like I just washed my hands. Is this some sort of a joke? At least L'Artisan's droopy salty celery was interesting - this is just dumb. I feel sorry for anyone who falls for the topnotes in a store and blows $180 on a bottle of this without giving it some time. Flagrant toploading foul!
Right Arm: Blu Mediterraneo Fico di Amalfi by Acqua di Parma.
Another one that didn't impress me on paper, but smelled great on. The fig is deftly blended with citrus and pepper, with cedar in the base. Nothing too complex, but it smelled really good on me.
The new Chanel Cristalle Eau Verte smelled really great on paper. But the reviews here hate it for the heart notes, so I'm turning skeptical.
Fougere Royale hasn't landed yet...
The new Creed Acqua Fiorentina is one of those done-to-death cassis/apple fruity florals. Bleh.
Thanks to the hype, I sniffed Love In White. Weird milky creamy floral. I can see how it would be a total love-it-or-hate-it. I'm leaning towards hate-it...

Well - it started out with New York. But when my checked in bag went thru the thing at Shanghai Airport something went 'beep' and I was asked to look into the Baggage Check room and open the bag before they sent it off to the plane. The young guy zeroed in on the small metal containers in my toilet bag. What's all this then? So I patiently opened the Kilian Travel thing and sprayed Taste of Heaven on my left wrist. He smiled, he nodded. Now then, what's this (TDC Aluminium Travel) thing . . . this was carrying some MPG Eau des Iles (decanted into the 10 ml bottle). Right wrist for this one - his head literally snapped back - whiplash - and the look on his face made up the delay. It was like he'd been hit with a brick. Poor guy . . . I'm back in HK (with everything intact) but who know's what he must be thinking tonight.
Thanks for listening - I feel better now
