I thought it was the pluperfect of "Wang Chung".

Sorry. I look forward to a real or at least a genuinely amusing answer. It's a good question.

    LMAO! Good one.

I remember reading somewhere way back Ho Hang was meant to portray something about male/female balance or harmony. That may have been just a scent description though.

I posted a Ho Hang thread about a month ago, and I think someone said it meant "Great Fragrance" or something like that in Chinese. I'd have to go back to the thread to clarify.

    Good frag too.

In that case, I would have called it "Yin Yang".

Sounds more like Vietnamese to me...but I have absolutely no idea.

Ho Heung means that something smells very fragrant in cantonese.

Ho Hang means something is very tight.

It could mean "good smell" in Cantonese. Hong Kong is "fragrant harbor", right. And "huh", which is often romanized as "ho" means "good". I actually think that makes sense. But I don't speak Cantonese, I speak Mandarin. Anybody?

"Ho Hang" is what the producers of "Hung" said when they saw their ratings last week.

    (Sorry 'bout that)

Ho hang is Vietnamese for 'kindred' when used as an adjective according to the Tuttle Compact Vietnamese Dictionary
    "Are you a god?"
    "No"
    "Are you a wizard?"
    "No"
    "Are you a man?"
    "No"
    "Then what are you?"
    "I am awake.."

This makes sense Strollyourlobster (and Stereotomy).

Hong Kong is western pronunciation of Heung Gong - Fragrant Harbour. Perfume BTW in Cantonese is 'Heung Soy' = fragrant water. Some of you may recognise the 'Soy' from Feng Shui which is prononced here 'Fung Soy' = wind / water.

Ho Hang is not a far cry from 'Ho Heung' which can be used to describe scents or food smells that are appetising etc. Coconut might be able to shed more light on this - my Cantonese is pretty basic.

I agree, although my cantonese is pretty basic too. "Ho" most probably means "very" but
"Hang" can have a few meanings in cantonese depending on the tone and pronunciation. I'm a Hakka speaker.

I just know few words of chinese and since I know the color red (meaningful of good luck and prosperity in China) is called "Ho", I always thought "Ho Hang" means something red or dealing with red.

So we are assuming Balenciaga chose Ho Hang in Chinese and not another oriental language?

I'm Vietnamese and I don't think Ho Hang is...Vietnamese :P In Vietnamese, If you write down Ho Hang without adding these " ^ , or ., or `, or ', or...", then Ho Hang can be understanded this way: Relative, or low-necked... :P

Ho means Very and Hang means Lucky- in cantonese and Hokkien. Mix them together- it simply means Very Lucky. Mr Balenciaga really picked the name well.

When you wear Ho Hang, you get lucky.

I've won a small lottery after wearing Ho Hang.

er... ok... I make the last part up.

great observations bro, "Lucky" should be "Heng" in Hokkien. So they possibly got the spelling wrong, coz it does seem like "Very Lucky" is a very probable choice. Intriguing, I really would love to know the true origins,
