Default Shipping a perfume bottle with bulb atomizer

Looking for any advice....I am trying to ship a bottle of perfume that only has a bulb atomizer- no other cap or lid came with. I taped the nozzle first and packaged with tons of popcorn and bubble wrap...only to arrive an hour later at the post office with a soaking box and 1/3 of the juice gone

So now I am just looking at that bottle trying to figure out how to ship it.

Any help appreciated and thank you for reading

You mean the bulb like in some Serge Lutens bell-shaped bottles?

I used to send a lot of such bottles and nothing leaked. My advice is (I hope I'll explain it clearly, my english is not so good): I take some piece of a bubble foil (the kind of foil that it's good to wrap bottles in), I put this piece of foil on the bulb like I was going to hide the upper part of the bottle under the foil. Then I wrap the foil lower and around the bulb with a rope or adhesive tape. There's no chance that the bulb falls out, the foil keeps it tightly in the right place.

    Hope it was clear enough

Ah thank you for such a detailed reply

But I meant this type of bulb:

Did it come with the bulb apparatus pre-attached out of the box? I thought I read somewhere that some are detachable. *shrugs*

Can you use something like Teflon tape (a.k.a. plumber's tape) inside the nozzle before you twist it onto the bottle? It can be found for $2-3 at a hardware store. I've read of other Basenoters using it for regular screw-cap bottles, but I'm not sure how well it would work with a bulb atomizer.

    Good luck!

There is no way to get around the leaking of a bulb spray atomiser. I would not ship or mail scent with a bulb spray cap.

These things leak...there is no locking mechanism.

The best thing is to use a screw cap that might have come with the scent. The technology for a locking spray atomiser has been around since the 1930s but some companies insist on using the bulb because it is so pretty...and not warning the consumer that these leak.

Ah Teflon tape. Hm. I'll experiment with that. Thank you.

I fear Primrose may be correct though. I do not recall if it came with another lid when I got the perfume....seem to recall being shocked that it didn't.

Maybe you should decant the juice into a screw top bottle ( and ship the atomiser and other bottle with it empty ) and put a note in the box to explain why .Put a pipette in so the person can decant it back into the original bottle when they get it.

I think mysticknot has the best solution for this situation.

For a leaking parfum bottle, though, I used parafilm which is a moisture-proof stretchable plastic film. I wrapped it tightly around the neck and then put some cotton over that and wrapped with gauze. The buyer seemed to be happy, and no mention of a leak (unlike when I received the bottle myself from eBay). Parafilm is great for storing splash bottles, too.

    Thank you Asha
Where would one find parafilm? Sounds like handy thing for a perfume swapper/buyer/seller to have

I got mine on eBay. If you want a few feet, I have have plenty to spare. It wasn't expensive, but some people on eBay are gouging--a small amount for alot of money, when a whole roll from a laboratory supply can be had for just a little more. PM me if you are interested.

This is the seller I bought mine from:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/PARAFILM-Laborat...3286.m20.l1116

The same seller also has 2" wide by 250' for the same price. The width does not really matter because smaller strips are needed for fragrance bottles. It needs to be cut no matter what.

Well thanks for all your helpful suggestions, however by the time I got to the bottle to re-enforce it for shipping almost all the of perfume had "sssppppp" leaked out all by itself while sitting on a shelf in a box waiting to be shipped. Nothing but a few drops left.

    Stupid bulb atomizers.
