    Default Favourite House/line?

YSL somehow ends up being my favourite. Like I said in another thread, I went to Wal Mart and was disappointed in their selection. I saw Rive Gauche however, and thought, might as well try it, Kouros was pretty good, and I found myself trusting YSL more and more.

Was not disappointed! I think I'll probably check out M7 and Body Kouros as well!

YSL seems to do everything different from other companies, and not go the typical route, and I enjoy that.

I'm a novice, only tried maybe <10 fragrances but so far, Chanel Allure has to be my favourite line. Homme> Edition Blanche > Sport imo

Close second is the Dior Homme line

    Intense > EDT > Cologne

Serge Lutens, easily. They've made many fragrances I either dislike or am indifferent to, but if I had to choose a library of scents from only one house, this would be it. So many favorites.

Same here, considering one of the first pictures I saw of him when I googled his name was the "flexing by the mirror picture". Blaghhhh.

Speaking of Serge Lutens, what would be some good recommendations for getting started with this house. I already have a decant of MKK on it's way (though I've yet to smell it), and I've heard good things about Chergui, and have been also been trying to locate Tubéreuse Criminelle (which I can't seem to find anywhere), but really don't know where to even begin. The other bummer is that the SL website said they don't ship outside of Europe, so I can't even request samples or try and buy them from the site.

What would some of you who are more familiar with the house recommend to try out?

Any reputable decanters (including BN members) or places I can request samples from that you know of?

I have ordered successfully from luckyscent and the perfumed court. They are very reputable.

It would have to be YSL. Their classic stuff is such high quality juice at shockingly low prices.

Overall I own a greater percentage of scents from the Creed portfolio compared to any other house so presumably that rubber stamps them as my favourite. Lutens and Penhaligons also rank highly.

If you write them they will send you a book of wax samples for free. These aren't identical to the fragrances themselves, as the medium is different ( wax vs. alcohol ), but they will give you an idea about each scent before you pay for samples or decants to explore further.

The line is split in two: an exclusive line only sold in Paris, and an international line sold in many niche retailers. Every year one of the Paris exclusives are released as limited editions. This winter is supposed to bring Tubereuse Criminelle.

I'd pick Hermes. I like the consistency of their recent releases, love the Hermenessence line, I think Ellena is brilliant. Plus, Hermes can be proud of few timeless scents (I'd say Eau d'Hermes and Bel Ami) which can easily be considered classics.

So far Dior is only house that has more than 2 fragrances that I absolutely love.

    Dior Homme
    Dior Homme Intense
    Fahrenheit
    Hypnotic Poison

Addict 2 and other Poisons are cool too.

Second would be Mugler with their feminine Angel, Alien and A*Men + flankers.

YSL is OK but I have yet to try some stuff like Rive Gauche.

Will they ship these outside of Europe though?

  37. #37

They will ship the wax samples anywhere. I received mine back in Canada.

In terms of bottles, they ship Paris exclusives and exports within Europe; and just exports in the US. However, there are a number of stores that ship Lutens' exports internationally.

The only tricky part is getting a full bottle of a Paris Exclusive, but there are a number of middlemen and grey market methods to obtaining them outside Europe.

I also would like to give a nod to Parfumerie Generale. I only own one, but each that I sample, I like. They have a certain oddness or twist to them all that I find facinating.
