Default Searching a good calm, masculine perfume

Hello everybody:

I'm new at the forum and I would like to hear your expert recommendations about the best calm, masculine scents.

Thank you in advance!

There's a great amount of "Masculine-cologne-threads" floating around here. There were threads about "quiet scents", too.

However, a calm and masculine scent to me seems to be Chêne (Serge Lutens). At least that's how I use it: To calm me down. And then: Oaks are, without a doubt, majestic, patient trees.

Hello and Welcome Glück,

I get the impression of "calm" from L'Artisan Parfumeur's Tea For Two, it feels very unisex to me, but isn't explicitly feminine...

If by "calm" you mean restful, contemplative, and perhaps a bit sedate, I'd suggest you try some of the following, (some already mentioned):

Caron pour un Homme
The Third Man
Héritage
Jaïpur Homme (preferably the EdP)
Comme des Garçons Avignon, Jaisalmer, Zagorsk or Ourzazate
Dzongkha
Sycomore
Givenchy Vetyver
Eau Lente
L'Homme Sage
JHL

There are actually some themes running through these selections: lavender/vanilla, rich woody (but not gourmand) oriental, mellow vetiver, and incense.

Forgive me for laughing at a typo, but that one's classic. On a more serious note, I agree with all your recommendations (at least the ones I know).

:bounce: Freudian, I assure you!

Of course, if the OP wants "clam," it occurs to me that Sécrétions Magnifiques smells a bit like old, raw clams.

I agree. I feel mostly anything lavender-based is calming - which this is an excellent example.

Yes, although it's nearly a cliche to say so, Iavender is calming for me, too. A favorite comfort scent for me is Parfums de Nicolai Nicolai Pour Homme. Love that stuff. Caron Pour Un Homme is also very calming. But I would add that the mere fact of having my attention focused on something intricate and sensory is very calming and focusing. And a shot of many fragrances gives me this effect.

Hello again!
I greatly appreciate your efforts and your helpful comments. I think I should focus my search with more criteria.

I'm looking for a calm (quiet and safe -not sedated -), clearly masculine -but not macho-, classic but modern perfume. It may be something like London Burberry (leather, tobacco), or more transportative (like Terre), or with wood... I don't know. I apologize because I know it is a bit vague

Rive Gauche.

Some non-niche ideas that immediately spring to my mind are...
Equipage - Hermes.
Polo Modern Reserve - Ralph Lauren
Rive Gauche - YSL
Jazz - YSL
Pour un Homme - Caron
Vetyver - L'Occitane

Safari and Polo Crest are the two of the most calm masculines I know.

Also be sure to try

pierre cardin pour monsieur
pierre cardin enigme
versace black
aramis tuscany
eau sauvage

I find rive gauche a little bit edgy to be called calm. With some careless extra spraying it can easly be very unforgiving unlike others listed. Its more like a sleeping monster.

Bvlgari Pour Homme is an understated, mature, manly skin scent.
Diptyque Tam Dao is a pure, clean, contemplative sandalwood.

Many other good recommendations here.

I'd still stick with my earlier suggestion of Tea For Two, and throw in Gucci PHII, another tea scent, and L'Artisan Bois Farine, a soft gourmand scent. I second Vibert's mention of Heritage, it does give the impression of a modern classic.

I certain renowned member just yesterday wrote about a scent named Kouros - that it is so masculin and nice. Be a man, give it a try.

+1 on this quiet modern scent.

For warm weather, Geir Ness works.

For cooler weather, Heritage.

The scent grows richer, he knows he must be near
He finds a long passageway lit by chandelier
Each step he takes, the perfumes change
From familiar fragrance to flavours strange

I would suggest Escada Homme, a very calm, elegant masculine fragrance.

I would also suggest Francesco Smalto, another masculine fragrance that I would classify as calm.

In my opinion, Horizon by Guy Laroche (now discontinued, but ridiculously cheap on many perfume discounter sites) is truly calm perfume.

When I think of a "calm" fragrance, the first that comes to mind is Davidoff Zino.

I also find Bvlgari pour Homme very 'calming.' Sadly I also find it a bit boring these days!

So Gluck, my question is - what have you tried? I'd second many of the recommendations above, but without knowing what you like, it makes it a bit more difficult. For the record, I'll third or fourth the recommendation of YSL Rive Gauche PH.
