I don't have a recommendation, but please keep in mind that anything you find may be close, but not likely to be exact.

It won't be exact, but you could try Calvin Klein's Truth for Men. It has a grassy/sapling quality.

Like your stepdad, I used to love Jovan Grass Oil. I wore it when I was a teenager, but I honestly can't remember what it smelled like now. I wish I could help a fellow grass oil lover out, but I just remember loving it. Hopefully somebody on here will have a few drops of it left and be able to make some suggestions based on direct knowledge of the scent. I don't think just naming scents that smell "grassy" is going to hit the mark. I'll be watching this thread, though, in hopes that somebody who knows the original scent will surface!

I too used to wear it in the 70s. Loved and never forgot it. Just found a company in Michigan called Scent Matchers where they claim they can reproduce it. Haven't tried it yet, but seems worth a shot. www.scentmatchers.com For $55.99 what the heck!

Please do not use ScentMatchers. Complaints boards and consumer websites abound with grievances about this company. I myself fell victim to their unethical business practices. A google search will probably show you complaints right after the site itself. You can even search the Basenotes forum for some information on them!
