Default recommendation for a leather scent?

..thats in the same league/class as Cuiron /Cuir D'oranger.?

i.e something that will evoke pleasant smiles from ages 5 -95. Not even REL can do that.

Nothing too "daring" /badboy please. No Knize Ten etc. (dont hurt me!)

Elsha 1776 - rich, yet smooth, soft, and best of all, cheap like borscht!

Seconding this. It's one of the most "easy going" leather fragrances I know; very pleasant.

Kelly Caleche EDT is marketed as a women's scent but I find it quite masculine with its strong leather note.

The top notes are floral (rose) but settle down into a nice, long-lasting leather. I stress that the EDT is quite different from the EDP.

I urge you to give this a try.

Knize Ten isn't too daring - had a powdery floral drydown to me. A dark one would be one of TF's offerings (Tuscan leather)

    So, not sexy, just nice?

Daim Blond or Cuir Venenum. Comfortable, friendly, luxurious suede/leather.

But not both, IMO; I have them both and while I love them both, they're similar enough to be redundant with each other in a modest-sized collection. This was the mistake that inspired my "no more than one full bottle with a given note while in that note craze" purchasing rule. Then I promptly moved on to violate the same rule with tea fragrances.

I don't what kind of budget your working, so I will suggest two leather fragrances.

Low end 1776 Russian Leather..Elsha..Wears like a much more expensive fragrance.
High end Cuir d'Iris..Parfumerie Generale...Can compete with any leather in the market place today.

I'm sure alot of good suggestions are to follow, as there are no shortages of good leather fragrances to choose from. Happy hunting.
Don't panic. Just stay calm, and reload....

I want to throw Odori Cuoio into the mix here. (I'd love someone with Italian skills to give me the phonetic pronunciation of "Cuoio" - I just picked up the bottle and took it to the register.)

I'm still getting to know it a bit, but it's a contemporary take on leather I think. Not overwhelming. Good lasting power. Limited, but good reviews in the directory.

    Classy. Pricey.

Not that this should influence your choice, but my vote for best men's cologne packaging would go to the Odori line. It's manly bathroom art (and probably contributes to the price!)

I actually opened this thread to ask if anyone would recommend this frag. There was a good deal of discussion about it on the forums several weeks ago and it sounds very interesting. I'll have to look around for a sample.

I love this one! But it is pretty in your face to start out with, though it does mellow out with a nice base of vanilla...

I wasn't expecting that..... Knize Ten daring? Don't go anywhere near Aoud Cuir d' Arabie then.....
With that in mind I could only suggest Daim Blond (the smell of old expensive suede gloves) and Heeley CPF. And if you feel like a joyride and have access to a sample, SMN Nostalgia.

I see (from your 'drobe) you have not tried Tom Ford's Tuscan Leather. This is a mellow, yet significant plummy leather with pretty significant longevity.

Has anyone mentioned Cuir de Russie from the Chanel Exclusifs line? I find it non-threatening and also an absolute class act.

Parfumerie Generale - Cuir D'Iris is another one to try. Rich & sensuous.

My vote would be for two unmentioned so far - Histoires de Parfums - 1740 and Indult Reve en Cuir. Both are slightly sweeter than some traditional leathers, but quite different approaches.

Seconding the Parfumerie Generale Cuir d'Iris -- however I should add I personally don't think of it as a true leather scent. The iris pretty much overwhelms it after the initial few minutes, followed by the spiced woods, amber and incense further blanketing any and all traces of leather visible to my nose. The drydown is where the leather re-emerges again, albeit faintly, amid the benzoin/amber.

I'd add EldO's Tom of Finland and Ava Luxe's Film Noir as my recommendations. They're quite unlike any other out in the market today, IMO -- most certainly worth a sniff or two
