Had to dash off to the parental unit last night (now which movie is that a quote from? Can't remember) so all I have to choose from today is some decants stuffed about my person: Tam Dao it is.
My sis is kitty-sitting, and she informs me that she's perfectly alright if singularly grumpy. Stitches don't agree with her, apparently.
    Ciao, bellas.
It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely products of a deranged imagination.

Happy Birthday Kewart! Hope you'll have a wonderful day.

I've been too busy to stop by here, trying to juggle my life including full-time work, two kids, three cats and a house while my husband's abroad on buisness for a week.

Today, I'm in Prada's Infusion D'Iris which I for some reason think of as an autumn scent.

Today I am still suffering with the cold, but slowly starting to smell again. So I have chosen Marc Jacobs Ivy Splash. I'm trying to see if I can identify the cardamom accord.

HAPPIEST OF BIRTHDAYS, KEWART, YOU LOVELY VIRGO, YOU!!!

Poor Chaya -- you must be POOPED!!

Began my day in a squirt of DKNY's Black Cashmere, supplied by my No. 1 Basenotes enabler. I really liked it -- although my partner didn't -- a sort of watery incense. Pleasant. But man, it disappeared within an hour, without a trace. What is it with me?!

Only thing for it was to seek refuge in my newly aquired Opium Fleur de Shanghai. Last time I wore this, it was 28 degrees, and I was worried that it would not make the transition to cooler weather. But it does -- oh, yes. It does. It is simply beautiful.

Ineespenes, sending good thoughts your way.

Today I'm in Chanel no. 19
I am once again so moved by its elegant beauty. This is truly what I would call an
abstract or conceptual fragrance, not just a rendition of something in nature, but clearly
    the expression of imagination.
So smooth and seamless and one of the ones that seems to get better over time.

    have a good day, all.
"Like a lobster with a pearl in its claw, the beet held the jasmine firmly without crushing or obscuring it. Beet lifted jasmine, the way a bullnecked partner lifts a ballerina, and the pair came on stage on citron's fluty cue. As if jasmine were a collection of beautiful paintings, beet hung it in the galleries of the nose, insured it against fire or theft, threw a party to celebrate it. Citron mailed the invitations." MANY HAPPY RETURNS, KEWART!!!

Hope you have a lovely meal out with your husband - you are not off to Darcy's, by any chance?

Today I am wearing a batch of samples from the "maple leaf enabler", Lovethescents:

Lilly Pulitzer Beachy ("l"s in unexpected places) - it's bright, breezy and beachy all right, though possibly not Palm Beachy, as the blurb suggests. I would expect the ladies there to be swathed in Femme and Joy.

MAC Africanimal - very interesting, have no idea what I am smelling though. Honey and woods? Do they have bees on the Veldt? I guess they must do!

L'Artisan Vanilia - very gourmand vanilla and amber. I think I might prefer this later on.

LTBL - aaaah, another cosy comfort scent!

surprising how close it smells to jungle elephant from kenzo. Bond is a bit bolder and maybe more flowery

    Happy Birthday Kewart!

After an intense oud I thought I'd go for a lighter shade of oud today

    Korres Saffron Amber Agarwood Cardamom

Korres is a Greek based Homeopathic Pharmacy that has recently branched out into fragrances. In 2009, they released three scents. The names are the ingredients and the one labelled Saffron, Amber, Agarwood, Cardamom immediately caught my attention as I enjoy all four of those notes immensely. One thing I can say about Korres is they definitely practice truth in advertising as it is those four notes and only those four notes I get when wearing this one. Right from the top the saffron, cardamom, and agarwood are present. The saffron and cardamom are a little more prominent at the very beginning. What makes this scent remarkable is the restrained use of agarwood (oud). In a perfume world full of big powerhouses which use agarwood as the big bold note this scent uses it in such a lightly applied manner I was first worried the note wasn't there when I first sprayed it on. It took a couple of minutes for it to make itself known and unlike other agarwood scents it never dominates it instead keeps a nice balance with the saffron and cardamom which is not easy becasue of the delicacy of those notes. Slowly over a good deal of time the scent becomes warmer as amber adds itself to the mix. This is where the scent stays for a good long time in its development, intricately balanced between all four notes and it is beautiful. Korres Saffron Amber Agarwood Cardamom has excellent longevity and modest sillage. For those who like agarwood but want something that won't overwhelm this is worth a try. For those who have shied away from agarwood because of that tendency to dominate this might be the one version of agarwood that might work on you. For me, this is a wonderful fall scent which takes four of my favorite notes and creates a beautiful whole out of them.

    Have a Whoopie Wednesday everyone.

Veuve, I think that "parental unit" was from the SNL Coneheads skits of the late 1970s. (I never saw the reportedly abysmal Coneheads movie from the 80s, thank goodness)

My organizer will be here in a half hour or so...I'm ready for the day in vintage Caron Bellodgia. I'm getting a sneaky hidden hint of leather today, believe it or not!

It's from Coneheads-- what a funny movie! Last year when my daughter began going through all the hormonal turmoil of puberty, she was rather excitable and yelled at me now and then. I found that I could get her to calm down and have a laugh with Dan Akroyd's line (spoken with a Coneheads accent), "Maintain low tones!"

Ahhh, SotD...haven't decided yet! Back later....

Eau de Patou by Jean Patou (from a sample - thanks Zachary)

Nice stuff. It has a dusty, green quality to the top notes (I'm thinking oakmoss) that gives a golden burnish to the citrus. I am really impressed. It reminds me a bit of the top notes of Sous le Vent by Guerlain. Now I have to find out how to get a bottle of this stuff, it doesn't seem easy to find.

I'm on a leather crave today, but not just any leather. No, I want skanky leather ... I reached for Paco Rabanne La Nuit.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY KEWART!

For the 3rd day in a row, I'm wearing Jo Malone's Vanilla & Anise, which I bought "unsniffed." It turned out to be exactly what I wanted. It's strong on the anise upon application (nicely boozy, to me) but it warms to a perfect, dry vanilla. For me it's long-lasting and blends beautifully with several others in my growing stash of Malones!

I received a sample of Pomegranate Noir, which, for some mysterious reason hadn't gabbed me when it first came out. Now I absolutely adore it, and must purchase a FB soon. Hope everyone is looking forward to cozy Fall scents.

I'm trying Ormonde Jayne Tolu for the first time. It's a gorgeous, shimmering amber, with a bit of powder and a touch of herbs. Listed notes include juniper berry, orange blossom, clary sage, orchid, Moroccan rose, muguet, tolu, tonka bean, golden frankincense, amber. All in all, a perfect choice for an Indian summer/early fall day!

Special hug going out to ineespenes.

My experiments with layering Parisienne continue. Today I have it with a discontinued Avon Orange Blossom body spray. It's rather interesting, as this spray has a citrus note, but of course the body spray is wearing off much faster than the EdP. Maybe the next time I'll try layering with something more long-lasting and more frankly citrus. Maybe Eau de Hadrien.

And a Happy Birthday to Kewart!

And YES, Coneheads! Ah, nostalgia. Luvved it when it came out. In my defense, I was 10 or thereabouts.

I'm not wearing fragrance today. I've been down for the count with a stomach virus/flu, they don't know what - could be migraine related. I got a shot at the Dr.'s for nausea and that knocked me out. I'm beginning to come to life again now.

    Hope everyone else is well!

Happy, happy, happy birthday to you, Kewart. Enjoy every second of it.

Oh Lilybelle, get well soon. Stay safe and rest up.

People are smelling fantastic today. Interesting to see the trends changing as the weather is changing.

Primrose: Black Orchid's been on my radar lately. It's so wonderful in the colder weather.

Musse: Baghari is one that's been on my DH's radar lately (for me though). He thinks it's very sexy. (boom-chik-a-wa-wa)

VM: smelling fab, as always. Glad you're enjoying the Beachy. Africanimal is woodsy-honey on me as well.....like a less salty and more perfumey Miel de Bois (hope I didn't make anyone gasp in horror!)

I want to extend a massive thanks for all the lovely messages yesterday. You are so kind for caring and it is so appreciated :-)

Scent of the morning was my usual go-to-the-gym-frag: SummerbyKenzo

Scent of the evening: testing Lily & Spice----thanks, VM!!

Tovah - Vanilla & Anise is very nice , I agree.

This afternoon, I'm testing out Lola by Marc Jacobs ,thank you my 'fairy godfriend' from Basenotes.
I am very surprised- I like this ,it's so much nicer than the hideous bottle it comes in.

    HAPPIEST OF B-DAYS TO KEWART
....(goodness knows you could use some good times!!

Lilybelle...SNOOKUMS...hope they've got you figured out. Been a rough couple-a days here....

Swanned about today in the amazing Chant de Coeur - thanks to LeeSee.

Up at the CRACK tomorrow ayem to go with my Vietnamese AA friend who's being sworn in as an American citizen after a 12 year wait. When he first applied he was turned down - when he re-applied - nine years later he was again turned down but asked why he waited so long between applications. He told them he wanted to have sufficient sobriety before asking to be a citizen. On that basis he was accepted.

Earlier I decided to finally test out the vintage bottle of Chanel No 19 that I recently purchased. Maybe it's gone off? Because I found it totally and horribly repulsive. I diligently kept my nose away from my arm and checked it at 30 minutes - horrifying. Checked it again at an hour - terrifying. Checked it again at 2 hours - it was like a Rob Zombie film. So I scrubbed and wept a little inside I really wanted to like it.

And then I promptly doused myself in a good helping of Love's True Bluish Light to erase the catatonia-inducing memory of No 19 and thanked the universe for mysticknot.

Happy Birthday Kewart and TheAttorney! I must have known it was going to be your birthday today...that's why I smelled like cake. No wait...I wore Vanille Gourmande by Laura Mercier...I won it from Neimans last week. Don't like to smell like food very often but today it was nice...free stuff always smells a little better
