    Floris
    Elite
    (1980)

    Top Notes: Grapefruit, Bergamot Leaves
    Middle Notes: Lavender, Patchouli, Cedar
Base Notes: Tuberose, Oakmoss, Sandalwood, Vetiver

I'm in the minority among Basenotes reviewers of this scent. Here's my take on it: Elite is woody-floral with a green citrus top. The notes, to my nose, marry very well. It seems a bright and optimistic fragrance, not what one would usually think of when seeing patchouli, cedar, oakmoss, vetiver, and sandalwood all stacked up in a fragrance; but in Elite, the top notes and the unusual combination of lavender and tuberose give the whole a real lift and brighten it considerably. Even in the drydown, the gentler notes persist. This may not be to the taste of those who prefer "modern" fragrances, but it's pretty well put together and deserves the occasional outing.

Bois de Santal by Creed (from a sample - thanks AnthonyDG)

I remember trying this, thanks to zztopp, back when I was going through my sandalwood craze. I'm reminded, when I wear this, of the outstanding vintage Casswell Massey Sandalwood cologne that I wore as a young adult and at the time, didn't realize how wonderful it really was. The Creed is a tiny bit lactonic, which annoys me just a tiny bit, but besides that I can see why this scent has such an esteemed list of fans here on BN. I'll call it Grandfather Sandalwood. Not because I think it's for older men, no, more that I think of it as being older, wiser and having more seniority than other sandalwoods on the market.

    Hello, all!

Especially nice to see Shachman here, though perhaps *I* am the one who's been more off the board lately.

Belated birthday wishes to Neil Morris, and with intense thanks to SMM, my SoTD is my newly refreshed supply of Guerlain Bois d'Armenie!!!! After more than a year with my bottle being AWOL, my fabulous ScentSon showed up for dinner last night with a MONSTER d*cant of BdA... easily enough for me to claim it's back in my collection! Words cannot describe how pleased I am. It's like having an old friend suddenly re-surface and being able to pick up as if you'd never spent time apart.

(In fact, I couldn't wait and spritzed some on my elbow last night... Walked past one of my DS#1's friends, who paused a second and then said, completely unprovoked, "Wow, something smells like incense.")

I have also managed to do -side-by-each comparisons of my sample of Penhaligon's Elixir and spritzes from my FBs of Costes and Padparadscha. Happy to confirm that all suit me, all are gorgeous, and all are sufficiently different from one another that I must add Elixir to my WishList immediately.
