    Lalique White

Notes: lemon leaves, tamarind, bergamot, violet, white pepper, nutmeg, cardamom, amber, cedar, musk (from Now Smell This)

Lalique White starts with a strange woody-citrus-aquatic, a combination of grapefruit, metallic ozone, laundry soap and generic woods, all of which smells as disjointed as it sounds. In the hopes that it might improve, I let it ride. Eventually a nice vetiver shows itself, but by this time I have lost all interest. Unfortunately, White seems like it might have been in a round of Terre d'Hermes rejects. It smells artificial and slapped together, with hints of household air freshener aromachemicals. The late drydown is somewhat interesting with its subtle vetiver and creamy wood. However, I am not willing to wait six hours for a finish that is done a hundred times better in Tom Ford's Grey Vetiver.

EPIC MAN by Amouage. Second day of sampling.
I really need to try my hand at a review of sorts, but in the meanwhile, this stuff is blowing me away. It helps that I'm kinda nuts for Amouage to start with and anyone else that is might like this scent as well. I have a full bottle on order so over time will get to know this stuff better. I recently sampled Tom Ford Italian Cypress and this Epic has a similiar "attack" on the nose but the Amouage has quite a lot more complexity. For instance, there is a wonderful Aoud note right off the top although it's listed in the base. I think that's Aoud - the "bandaid" note? Overall quite spicey, warm and green. I imagine this will be my favorite Fall scent from Amouage. I've tried XXV, DIA, Silver cologne, Lyric Man, Reflection.
