Default Categorising my collection - help please!

Hello fellow frangrancephiles, I am relatively new to the art of fragrance collecting (although not new to fragrances per se) and I need a fair bit of assistance in categorising the scents that I have purchased over the years.

From my initial exposure to men's fragrances at high school in the 90s (Joop Homme, Hugo by Hugo Boss, Polo Sport) to today when I lean more towards niche fragrance houses such as Serge Lutens, Frederic Malle and Diptyque I need some kind and well experienced posters on this forum to help me in definitively placing the fragrances I own into the respective divisions and sub-divisions as dictated by the principles of perfumery.

I happen to be a keen scent-gardener (I keep a scented garden containig nothing but scented plant and flowers) so would like to think I have a nose for refined smells.

When it comes to perfume however, I am only really familar with six or seven classifications: Aquatic (Oceanic), Aromatic, Citrus, Chypre, Floral, Fougere, Green, Oriental and Woody.

If some well versed souls could explain to me the distinctions between these types and if sub-divisions exist, I would appreciate it.

Which categories do the following fragrances fall into:

    Casran by Chopard
    Joop Homme by Joop
    Pi by Givenchy
    Hugo by Hugo Boss
    Chrome by Azzaro
    Happy for Men by Clinique
Acqua Di Gio by Georgio Armani
    Cristobal Homme by Balenciaga
    Yohji Homme by Yohji Yamamotto
L'eau D'Issey pour Homme by Issey Miyake
    Very Valentino by Valentino
    Platinum Egoiste by Chanel
Gucci Pour Homme II by Gucci
    L'Homme by Yves Saint Laurent
    L'Homme (L'eau d'Ete) by Yves Saint Laurent
Fuel For Life Homme by Diesel
    Cannabis Santal by Fresh
Dior Homme (Cologne) by Christian Dior
Dior Homme (EDT) by Christian Dior
Dior Homme Intense by Christian Dior
    Bois D'Argent by Christian Dior
    Bvlgari Pour Homme by Bvlgari
    Black Orchid by Tom Ford
Black Orchid VdF by Tom Ford
Comme Des Garcons 2 by Comme Des Garcons
8 88 by Comme Des Garcons
Hanae Mori (EDT) by Hanae Mori
Hanae Mori (EDP) by Hanae Mori
    Terre D'Hermes (EDT) by Hermes
    Terre D'Hermes (Parfum) by Hermes
    Amber Pour Homme by Prada
    Millesime Imperial by Creed
    Virgin Island Water by Creed
    Jaipur Homme (EDP) by Boucheron
    Antidote by Viktor & Rolf
    Pomegranate Noir by Jo Malone
Blue Agava & Cacao by Jo Malone
    Vetiver by Guerlain
    Datura Noir by Serge Lutens
    Douce Amere by Serge Lutens
Louve by Serge Lutens (I know this is classed as feminine but I love the Sweet Almond in it)
    Daim Blonde by Serg Lutens
    Tam Dao by Diptyque
    Philosykos by Diptyque

If people could also advise on day/night and seasonal wear for the above fragrances, I would be very grateful.

    Many thanks!

Possibly because it will help to give me a better understanding of fragrance mechanics, how individual notes are picked out and more insight into the creation of perfumes.

I wish the Basenote reviews came with classifications for each fragrance.

étincelle, you will find most of your fragrances on the French webseite Osmoz.fr
If you prefer English, use Osmoz.com (about 90% of all information offered on the French site is also tranlated and exhibited on ...Osmoz.com).

They classify all fragrances, and their pyramids are fairly reliable. Try to memorize the heart notes only at the beginning. Later on, it's helpful to also focus on main base notes. You can easily ignore top notes from the start. They are hardly ever significant for the overall impression of any perfume.
Trying to do all in one step could become rather confusing.

Olfactory groups and other matters are explained in their encyclopedia.

I don't know why you want to categorize your fragrances, but i do know your list of fragrances rocks!

Thank you! some of them are a bit redundant and haven't been used in years (I haven't used Joop Homme since High School!) but I have kept everything for sentimental reasons.
