Another vote for the cheapo Neutrogena Rainbath. Great stuff. I just don't have the $$ to spend on designer or niche shower gels, and Rainbath (the original version) smells great without overpowering my SOTD.

I didn't know that New West made a shower gel - wow, I would have loved to have smelled that.

I think the BEST shower gel I've ever smelled is Eau des Merveilles by Hermes. Expensive, though.

Sadly most of the drugstore stuff discussed here seems not to be available in the UK except by specialist online retailers.

Any cheap and cheerful suggestions available in the UK?

I always found the M7 shower gel to be superior to the actual fragrance - it seemed a bit more vibrant. As for drugstore stuff, Every Man Jack is pretty good, though I think the signature scent smells like a urinal cake. Citrus and Cedarwood are both good, but I thought the best was the Spiced Pepper one which I never see anymore.

I've been using this brand for about 3 years now and never tire of it. Great quality, great lather and the smell doesn't stick around on your skin too long, meaning it doesn't interfere with your fragrance of the day. Add to that the fact that most of Dr. Bronner's products are natural and organic and it's hard to ask for more!

I personally like the Lavender, Peppermint and Eucalyptus ones the best.

    Adidas Victory League shower gel.

I like it best because it's so cheap that I don't mind using it as a shower gel (for washing), rather than as a gel that I apply quickly at the end of a shower to get the gel's scent into my skin.

I'll second Molton Brown's Black Pepper, and add a BIG vote for the same company's Blissful TempleTree, which makes a great base for any of the Kouros scents.

The Lynx/Axe Instinct Shower Gel is really nice too - it's the one with a leather scent.

I am bumping this thread because I had a related question that I didn't think deserved its own thread.

Has anyone tried the Demeter shower gels? Looks like they make one for most or all of their scents. Since people complain about their longevity, a shower gel seems like a natural fit. I am more curious about the quality of the body wash than the smell, which I would assume is pretty similar to the regular spray version.

    My favourites shower gels are:

Ralph Lauren Polo Bracing Shower Gel - now quite hard to find, but oddly much better than the other shower gels in the RL line
    Aramis
    YSL Kouros Cologne Sport
    Tabac Original
    Quorum (very strong scent)

For me, I use Dove unscented for sensitive skin. It has nice but not over enthusiastic mositurizers, does not strip the skin of natural oils and has no scent. Perfect for getting my skin ready for my SOTD.

LOVE Eau des Baux in the shower. The steam really makes that incense/cypress accord spring to life.

I'm still on the search for the best shower gels. I really liked the Molton Brown Black Pepper, but it's too expensive to use regularly, though it lasts a good time. I'm hoping to get L'Occitane Eau des Baux shower gel for the holidays.

I love the C.O. Bigelow Barber Elixir hair and shower gels. They smell great and produce a rich lather. They contain aloe vera and pro vitamin b5. My skin feels great after using them. My favorite is the elixir black followed by the red, green and finally blue.

Several of the Axe shower gels are quite good. My favorite one is Kilo, it smells fantastic much better than the bodyspray. I find that is the case with most of their shower gels smell better than the bodysprays of the same name. I also like Axe Shock which has a nice mint smell and has menthol in it for a nice cooling sensation on the skin. Its a great summer body wash.

I second the Dial magnetic shower gel! So freaking good! The red one is amazing!! I have 3 back up bottles. Target had a sale..buy one get one. So glad I found this one. Also the new elixir white shower gel from c.o. Bigelow is amazing as well. Very nice clean citrus smell. I love showers.

On the expensive end, another vote for Creed. Their Original Vetiver gel is great. But it leaves so much scent on the skin that I can really only use it when I plan on wearing Original Vetiver that day. Of course, most people would consider this a good thing, as you could easily skip cologne completely after using it.

Of course, it costs too much for everyday wear, so I use it as a special occasion thing.

To vonMises, whose question was never answered, Tam Dao is a sandalwood scent, so based on the comments here, it would seem to be a favorite.

I won't laugh since I agree. How could I forget Irish Spring! It is a favorite body wash of mine for summertime weekends. I use the Mennen Speed Stick Irish Spring scented deodorant with it to smell like I just stepped out of the shower all day.

I purchased Neutrogena Rainbath after seeing it mentioned in this thread a few weeks ago.

Whatever the woody-amber aromachemical primarily responsible for the scent is, it smells GREAT. My problem is that I am unable to get the stuff to lather to any great extent with a washcloth, which ordinarily suffices for other bath soaps/bodywashes.

I will probably end up getting a loofah and seeing if there is any improvement but how do the other Rainbath owners go about using it? And how much do you use each shower?

    Thanks.

    Emlynevermore,

That Rainbath scent is great, isn't it? If some niche house bottled it and got Luckyscent's copy writers working on a description, it could sell for mighty good $$.

Get a good-quality nylon bath puff. I say good-quality because the cheap ones can really scratch your skin up. You'll know a good one - it's a bit denser, not so puffed-up like something you'd wash dishes with. I've found that these will produce the best lather, unlike a wash cloth or loofah, which seem to absorb the suds into themselves.

it is good stuff...i prefer the red bottle to the blue! I use the red and put a little andron behind the ears and I am pheremone-rific....hahah. Also from dial, the 3d shower gel is a mainstay in my shower. Its good right before or right after a workout...smell cleaner than you ever have!

For date night, i like using the kiehls musk shower gel...it, like what others have mentioned, is actually better than the edt...its more subdued and leaves the scent firmly planted on your skin all day!!!!

Another that I really love is billy jealousy ocean front...too expensive to buy regularly, but it got to where i craved the scent.

Tabac, Cardinal, Brookes Brothers, Musc Kublai Khan, Andron

I got some Tom Daxon gels in Salvia Sclarea and Vachetta via eBay for my son and dad. They couldn't care less; they're perfectly happy using Aveeno, so I use them. The scents are fantastic and my skin feels clean and fairly well moisturized afterward. I don't think I'd want to replace them at full retail price when they're gone though.
