Default Fragrances you wear to intimidate others

Are there any fragrances you wear when you want to intimidate another person?

In my profession (lawyer), there are commonly many situations where intimidation of my opponent is part of my job. When I want to intimidate, no scent is more appropriate than Van Cleef & Arpels Pour Homme. It's a fragrance that simply exudes power and assertiveness.

My choices would be Antaeus, Aramis, YSL Pour Homme Haute Concentration, Kouros and Azzaro Pour Homme.

I don't use scents to intimidate others but I find Azzaro pour homme has an air of old school masculine authority about it. I'd be interested to try the Van Cleef.

Most intimidating scent i think is not bathing for a while until your armpits and crotch get a thick layer of oils built up on them. LOL

Unhappy Re: Fragrances you wear to intimidate others

I'm afraid people around me usually divide scents into two categories, nice and 'yuck!'. I would like to use some proper adjective in place of yuck, but nothing seems fitting. By this I mean that typical reaction is so very instinctive, nothing more. Because of this, I don't think average person could ever perceive a fragrance as intimidating.

I'm with Johnny, I don't think that there are any universally intimidating fragrances.

Natural animalic scents (which aren't really used in perfumery nowadays) might give the wearer a forceful aura about them, but I wouldn't say that they are intimidating either...

Fragrance can only do so much.

Debatable. It was launched in 1981.

Luca Turin's opinion is that it may now be more appropriate on a woman. I think it has a history of having been very popular with gay men for a time.

It's one of the much imitated masculine power frags of the '80s, and from what I sense in here, it has a place in the hearts and wardrobes of many men. Gay or straight, it's pretty masculine.

I guess anyone can wear anything, but doesn't seem like it would be too good on a woman to me. Opinions vary I'm sure.

In these days you get beaten to death even on German streets for no good reason. Couldn't imagine how anyone doing that would be intimidated by a fragrance if you don't look superior, stronger.

Ok ok, but fragrance wise, I wore Fumerie Turque when I had to lay off several people a few years ago, but I tend to think of fragrances that are bold, assertive, yet classy, give off an aura of self-confidence. As I read recently, they don't have to be powerhouses - that tends to make one think you're trying to over compensate for something - but they should be worn in a way which speaks confidently.

Off the top of my head, I tend to think of scents from D'Orsay as doing this the best.

I once had an attractive female boss who was a real ball-buster at times. One day she berated me in a manner that I couldn't stand. This was during a time when I was wearing mostly easygoing, unisex type scents to work. The next day I wanted to set a different tone and one of the things I did-- I decided to start wearing really masculine scents in her presence. I went with John Varvatos Vintage. I wore it for almost a month straight, everytime I knew I'd be seeing her. It was odd how her demeanor toward me changed. She became really flirtatious. One time we were walking down a back corridor and she made a sexual joke and she kind of flung herself at me, and I picked her up and carried her down the hall. No, I'm not joking! Then, weeks later she wound up firing my two favorite coworkers in the most cold, pitiless manner. When I marched into her office to give her a piece of my mind, she just sat there and took it. It was strange, but I really do think this power shift was put into motion by my choice of fragrance...

+1 here...I don't think the real essence of the question here is about which fragrance is in and of itself is is literally intimidating. I think some scents are more "serious" than others.

I must have overlooked the lawyer part, but isn't that what suits are for?

My suggestion would be, find out what Les Grossman wears... He knows all about the power play. Find a scent that is the equivalent of this scene, and one will know the true meaning of intimidation - [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qg3vdU-Y1wM"]YouTube- Tropic Thunder: Les Grossman Phone Calls[/ame]

If the OP is a lawyer, Yatagan and the like would just be over the top.
I would recommend something less wild and rural.
No scent can evoke outright intimidation, as that phenomena is either physical or mental and neither has an olfactory equivalent.

But Lawyers do not use outright full tilt intimidation anyway, it is more nuanced and based not in the present, but based in threats of consequence.
So something more subtle and foretelling is suitable
Van cleef & Arpels has about 90% of this correct, but the evergreen/pine notes do add some weakness due to their seeming dated in a laughable way by many. The connotation is a very slight weakness. Plus, there are some mid notes that i think are too austere and even too elegant.
Cartier Santos would imo be the perfect authoritative scent for a lawyer, apply appropriately if you know the average distance between you and the opponent.
Bois du portugal/Heritage are too sweet and not strict enough, Bel Ami, Terre De Bois, Fumurie Turque and the darker masculine woody L'Artisans are powerful but lacking seriousness and seemingly lacking hygeine, which i think does not fit a lawyer.

Cartier Santos applied fairly heavily, as the intimidation you seek is civil, sterile, and very serious.

I would never wear it, but It is the most authoritative scent i have smelled.
