Default Six English language articles by Edmond Roudnitska

You can visit my blog for the story of how Michel shared six obscure English language articles with me so that I could share them. Actually, one is a chapter from a book. Great stuff. Uploaded one today, more to come as soon as I can scan them properly.

Awesome catch, Anya! I ran into just a few sentences from him in an old perfume book, and they were completely revelatory! This is great - thanks for doing this.

Your PDFs were fine. You can probably get away with smaller files at lower image resolutions (especially on the 48-pager) without too much loss of image quality. I would try to keep them below 4-5 MB if at all possible - otherwise they're very difficult to mail or download over a bad connection. It's OK to experiment - that's what even a geek would do.

I'll come back after reading. In the meanwhile, please thank Michel for his generosity in sharing this material!

Actually, if you run the scan through an OCR converter and replace all the scanned text with "real" text you can significantly cut down the size of the file.

I tried to do this with Acrobat 9 Pro but am not coming up with results. I'll play around with this to see if I can produce a better copy of your first scanned document.

I just tried it at 150dpi and it wasn't good. I'll be tinkering around, taking all advice, just like a good geek should do ;-)

OK, I'll play around with that tonight. I think I have Acrobat 8 Pro. Yes, that's it. Now off to find the OCR converter. Or something.

I hope you enjoyed the article. It's just full of fabulous info, predictions, reflections, etc.

    Hi, Anya.

Are you using scan to file and a scanner with an automatic document feeder? If you lack the automatic document feeder, it may be worthwhile to check with your local copy shops. I just called the local FedEx Office store. Put all the pages of one article in the document feeder, push the button, and it creates a single multi-page pdf. Hand them your memory stick or writable CD and they trasfer to that. I forgot to ask their charge for the pdf. But to use OCR to make a text document they charge $3.99 for the first page and $1.99 for each additional page.

Hope this helps. Yours is clearly a labor of love.
    Bravo

Just have to stand still in the moment and marvel at what has become of us. When my father was born, there was no electricity, no cars. Now we may access a goodly portion of the whole wealth of human knowledge, thanks to many individuals, including you, Anya. Sometimes life positively sparkles.

Once the character-recognition scan is done, the text could be saved as TXT files, which should be smaller than PDFs.

Attention: I just re-uploaded the Dragoco report. A friend noticed there were two duplicate first pages and he was also able to crop the pages, eliminating some of the 'shading' that was the bane of my scanning. I suggest if you downloaded the first version, go and replace it with the new version.
