Default Need a non-sweet flowery fragrance for a father.

    Hello,

I'm searching for a present for my step-father.

he likes "non-sweet and flowery" fragrances, and currently uses Lauder Pleasures for Men (rather sweet I'd say, but if he insists...) and I would really like to get him something a bit nicer.

he's a biologist working for international companies, a very well traveled man, in his early 60's, very analytical but he can also be enthusiastic like a little boy.

I hope you could recommend me some fragrances to check out.

    thanks a lot

Hmmm Hermes Equipage is very manly and has a strong floral component to it...it's one of my favorites. Kenzo Power might be something to look at if you think he might want something more modern.

Geoffery Beene's Grey Flannel is a startlingly stark floral that is timeless, elegant, and masculine.

I'd recommend Guerlain Vetiver. It's been around forever and it is a true classic.

    Narciso Rodriguez or Grey Flannel

Both are violet based and non-sweet. Guerlain Vetiver isn't based on flower

Acqua di Parma Colonia with the Bulgarian Rose present.
Guerlain Vetiver are Eau Sauvage in a similar family and very masculine as well, without venturing out into something like Black Orchid which can be challenging for some.

Your nostrils, which will dilate immesurably in unspeakable contentment, in motionless ecstasy, will ask nothing better for space, for they will be full of fragrance, as if perfumes and incense; for they will be glutted with complete happiness, like angels who dwell in the peace and magnificence of pleasent heaven.

    Hello,

I really liked Hermes Equipage, however it is not floral enough for what I need.
Kenzo Power was kind of nice, but not very interesting.
Couldn't find Grey flannel but will search for it. Next time I'll try Eau Sauvage and Guerlain's Vetiver, and AdP Colonia shouldn't be too hard to find either.

Thanks a lot for all the recommendations!

Hammam Bouquet might fit the bill. Check out the reviews.

Iris Bleu Gris by Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier strikes me as the type of thing you're after. Might be a bit harder to find though.

Aramis 900 might suit your dad.

How about Caron 3Homme? It has the scent of flowers covered and to my nose it is not primarily sweet. It is a very good quality juice.

Non-sweet and flowery makes me think of Quorum.

    Another vote for Hermes Equipage.

I second Grey Flannel, although the subtle, barely perceptible floral elements in Chanel PM and ADP Colonia (also the Assoluta and Intensa version), as well as in the citrus-leathery Chevignon Brand (not sweet at all, even slightly acid and astringent, in spite of the floral opening) and in Esencia Loewe (although the Brasilian Rose opening might smell awkward and overpowering at first, but the lush, yet non-sweet, but slightly powdery woody spicy drydown is just divine), even Santos de Cartier or Van Cleef & Arpels PH- some initial sweetness though, but a far more "dark, dry floral" finnish.

ok, tried a few of your recommendations:

Aramis 900 is pretty good, will think about it. However, I can imagine that it gets on your nerves, after a while.
Vetiver is Vetiver, no floral, but I like it and I can imagine that he would too.
Eau Sauvage is too light and has definitely too much lemon in the opening.
Caron le troisième homme is rather spicy, in that direction I'd prefer Hermes Equipage.
Aramis Havana... too much of everything.

Somehow I couldn't find the direction I was looking for... Maybe I'm searching for a very femine thing with all these florals. But a pour femme would make a dangerous gift for a man, wouldn't it?

So, I'll make a trip to LeParfum for Hammam Bouquet and Grey Flannel, and some of the more exotic recommendations, I hope they can resolve my dilemma.

Havana really takes a while to 'settle down' - the first 20 minutes are very overpowering. If you still have the card it was sprayed on give it a sniff now and see what you think - its a bit macho for me but I'm debating buying my dad a bottle for Xmas.
