And the sampling program, too! I'm all signed up. (Sorry I can't make it to England - I have a big obligation back in the States). But I guess that's more money for BN fragrances!

I believe I shall submit a brief. I mean...why the hell not? Aromi Pour Homme may be coming to a mall near you in the near future.

You know ...'Aromi' is not a bad name for a perfume, Aromi !

I don't know how to submit a brief for a perfume - I shall admit it! Yes, I am thick ..... but I think something chypre and unisex would be excellent . ( Oakmoss please ! )

I just finished my brief. It was a bit challenging, but also alot of fun. I hope MANY members submit one. What's to lose except a little of your time.

As I read the rules, you don't have to submit a detailed formula. I think they are more interested in the mood you want ("The thrill of a roller coaster ride"). Maybe a challenge ("Morning breath when love makes me like it") Maybe a few main ingredients ("Butter, brown sugar, bananas, rum, and vanilla").

We get paid exactly the same whether we win or wind up in the round file. So have fun.

I am loving the enthusiasm on this board!

ECaruthers is absolutely right - you don't need to come up with a formula, that's what the perfumers are for. You just need to come up with a really good idea and describe it in a way that we can understand it.

That said, I think "The thrill of a roller coaster ride" could be interpreted in too many ways so try and include a little bit more.... but the "Butter, brown sugar, bananas, rum, and vanilla" part definitely helps.

    Have fun!

I've just got my first one written, and it's sitting now to fully bake.

Actually, Aromi is a fantastic name. It has an exotic and unique feel to it, and it would be wasted on anything other than a very distinctive fragrance, of the kind our Aromi loves. Honestly, I would be resisting the temptation of a blind buy on anything with that name and the reputation of living up to it.

Thanks Red. There's no question yours will be interesting and very good as well. I actually have a mind to get with 2 other members after this is all over and create a fragrance between ourselves.

One person create the topnotes, one for the heart accord....and well, you get the idea. The fun would be in going back and forth with messages getting the fragrance all ironed out.

Yes - that kind of project would be interesting - but I'm sure it would be a huge process, to make sure the primary accords of the different stages jibed with each other. It would be disastrous otherwise, but I agree that this would be a nice way to initialize some kind of agreement by division of responsibility.

This process is teaching me the complexity of creating a fragrance theme which is consistent, appealing, and marketable.

    Not easy.

When the competion is over we should start a thread (or a whole new discussion) and share our briefs. We can also share the one's that we consturct as humor.

Good for you. There is some information about the real briefs used in the industry in Chandler Burr's The Perfect Scent. I bet we'll prefer most of ours.

    Hi there,

Would anyone be able to inform me if it's all right to send the brief as a PDF file? I've tried sending a private message to Grant about this, but apparently he doesn't accept them.

    Many thanks.

I just sent mine that way. I'm sure it's OK. Almost any modern email is going to accept a PDF attachment. And PDF is a good format. A lot of people can't handle new Word .docx files, and .doc is so old, but PDF is great for everybody now.

I would like to know, is there a deadline for signing up for samples? (As the cost of the sample program is higher than first anticipated, I would like to see which briefs are chosen before committing to the expenditure.)

I just submitted a brief on behalf of my daughter-- all I can say is, wow, I didn't know she had it in her! Definitely a perfumista in the making.

I sent my 4 briefs as regular emails and didn't receive any confirmations. Is that standard?

I'd also like to wait a bit before deciding on the sample program. I guess the risk is, if too many of us wait, it might not happen.

I'd not been routinely responding to entrants, in fact I think the only one I responded to was Quarry as it happened to be at the right place at the right time. Suffice to say I have received all the entries by the people on this thread who have sent one.

Unfortunately, due to the volume of emails this site generates, sometimes replies take a while (I've about 340 emails that need some kind of action...)

Happy New Year all of you (It's 2 hours away here...)

I wasn't actually expecting a confirmation. Emails seem more likely to get to the right place than sanil mail.

Thanks, Grant. Midnight tonight is the deadline, right? Midnight GMT?

Hi Grant I sent my 2nd application at around 11pm 31/12/09, it might in fact be the last entry before 2010! I hope it is accepted this late. The deadline makes no reference to when on the 31st of December so I assumed anytime before 2010 would be ok.

I'm really pleased that we got so many briefs in the hopper. I was worried that there wouldn't be enough, but now I think we may be sitting pretty nicely.

I wouldn't worry, Leesee. Grant happened to respond to my 3rd entry, but not my 1st, 2nd or 4th.
I have no reason to doubt that email goes through as it should and that Grant's system of organization is 100% reliable, even when he must be swamped by files.
