    Dr. Vranjes
    Ambra e Iris
    Paolo Vranjes
    (no date)
    Oriental

    ------------------
Notes: Patchouli, Grey Amber, Florentine Iris, Myrrh
    ------------------
A simple, yet intriguing concoction of iris with patchouli, myrrh, and amber for a ground. This is quite effective. A little forceful at first, as the notes all come on at once, but as the various layers begin to disengage and come separately to the fore, the development is quite interesting. First the amber recedes a bit, revealing more of the patchouli; then the iris becomes more prominent, and finally ends up sharing the stage with a dry and slightly bitter myrrh. In the end, there's a slight powderiness that makes a fleeting appearance. This is an extrait, boasting 20% odorant material, and has impressive longevity and pretty steady sillage. Sadly, the website says very little beyond hinting at notes. The date of introduction has been difficult to ferret out, but I'll keep trying.

Vintage Shalimar parfum. It's really cold, and this feels like a warming olfactory blanket.

Have I told you about the scent of jasmine? Have I spoken about the smell of the sea? The earth is scented. And I perfume myself to enhance what I am. Bandit by Robert Piguet...however the bandit I own turns out to be the curiously floral version. I get no mossy green leathery goodness. Its basically a higher quality arpege on me...unexpected and disappointing, but not bad.

I stopped by Sacks this afternoon and tested out:

BOND NO 9 Fire Island on my right wrist and.....
BOND NO 9 Coney Island on my left wrist

I enjoy both of them. The CI reminds me of Tommy Bahama St Barts but the longetivity sure outlastst the St Barts. It will replace my St Barts once the bottle is empty, which wiill be soon because I find myself re applying the fragrance every 10 minutes.

Fire Island is a nice frag, Yes it smells like expensive suntan lotion but it made me smile. I am going to re test this one a few more times but I have a feeling it will be a bottle purchase come springtime.
