Vu by Ted Lapidus, in partnership with L'Oreal, was his first fragrance launch in 1975.

It was a classic and beautiful chypre, very heavy base note of woods and oakmoss, amber and floral (rose and iris) mid notes, with a bergamot top note. There was a hint of rosemary and pine needle, too. The oakmoss and amber gave it a wonderful sunny warmth, and with the orris, added a deeper leather accord to it. It had a phenomenal sillage, and lasted many hours.

Sadly it was withdrawn in the early 1980s.

It was immensely popular in both the UK and Europe, especially in France and Italy. Occasionally you can buy it on ebay, usually from Itally, France or the US.

There was also a trace of clove, labdanum, lots of cedar and slight trace of civet type musk in the base, too
