    Default Guerlain Idylle Baccarat Edition

    Has anyone seen this before, apparently it's the baccarat edition? I found it on a french website so I can't give you anymore information than posting the french translation;

Another wacky design that is totally impractical. How do you open/spray it? Don't forget you pay dearly for shipping this enormous hunk o'glass. I'm sure it's beautiful & all but, you can't really display it without spoiling the juice. You'd be better off decanting it & putting colored water in.

If I understand correctly the ad copy says you'd have to break the crystal to get to the perfume. My interpretation: it's only meant to be displayed. I bet this brilliant idea came from someone @ LVMH headquarters...

Yes ,it is totally impractical but still quite beautiful to me in a way ! (However it does look like a decorative plate ...... )
Is that true- you have to break the glass to get to the perfume or am I gullible Merlino ????? If it is true, LVMH needs their head examined pronto.

“Le dilemme est alors de savoir si l’on conserve la bulle intacte afin d’user de la fragrance comme d’un élément déco ou si on brise le cristal afin de pouvoir s’enivrer des notes du parfum.”

If I'm not mistaken, this part (literally) translates to something like:

"The dilemma is now whether to keep the bulb intact in order to use the fragrance as a decorative piece or to break the crystal in order to be able to become intoxicated with the perfume's notes"

JaimeB, who's fluent in French afaik, could verify. but anyway, I wasn't kidding..

EDIT: actually, I think the idea is not that bad if the intent was to make a decorative piece. The whole composition strongly reminds me of a bottle of Chamade:

I just wish they'd used a bottle of Mitsouko or Shalimar instead of Idylle and coloured water instead of fragrance.

    Found the price: $45160 here.

    Loved this line:

"The vile further exceeds anything of its kind..."

Sorry if it's editorial humor, but I can't think of a better word for a frag that can't be smelled.

Surely an error /freudian slip (I think the writer meant 'vial' ) Redneck ! Also what a ridiculous price ! That amount of money would fuel my Ebay vintage mania for years !

I am sorry for the double posts - this has happened to me twice today .

Quarry, you always make me laugh. I was thinking they look like ice lanterns, you know when people freeze buckets of ice to make candle holders for outside in the snow. Very pretty.

Merlino, they definitely seem related to the Chamade parfum bottle, same striations in the glass. I wonder whether that was intentional.

Hm. Wonder if it actually IS coloured water in there and they are counting on no one smashing it open. What a sin- to make something so beautiful, so precious and so expensive, to just be smashed. Kind of disgusting consumption- makes me a bit sad

And it totally looks like the Chamade bottle.

Having collected Baccarat for many years I can tell you no one in their right mind would pay the kind of price for the crystal with any thought of using the fragrance by breaking the crystal. The price is likely four digits to the left of the decimal. A mere bauble for the filthy rich.

I saw it while in Paris. It's a very handsome piece. It's not meant to be used. It's simply a sculpture/jewelley, the stopper being solid 18 karat gold etc. It's not even meant to be sold, well it is for sale, but it's more of a celebratory in-house piece. I'm a sucker for anything opulent so I'm not affronted.

This just makes my mind all jiggly.

When I was away, I was told by several large fragrance shops that they could no longer even order L'Huere Bleue or Mitsouko in edp or parfum. These two were only available for order as edt. Jicky isn't even on the order form at all, so it isn't available in any formula whatsoever. Both shops order directly from Guerlain & are located in the U S Virgin Islands.

None of the fragrances or formulas were in the airport duty free shops in San Juan either.

And here they are messing about with vanity pieces?

Amen and hallelujah, Sister! Pedestrian modern frags and redunculous top-end items? Can only hope the pendulum swings the other way within our lifetimes.
