    Default Scent of the Year

Of all of the releases in 2009 which would you classify as your 'Scent of the Year'? For me it would have to be Amaranthine (no suprises there). Standouts include Idylle, Farenheit Absolute and Parisienne.

For me, off the top of my head: also YSL Parisienne, and I'm very much liking this Prada l'Eau Ambrée that I received for Christmas. It's not often that I discover a fragrance the same year it's released. It would be nice to see a list of 2009 releases.

    Wow, so many!

Tribute Attar, Amarinthe, Ubar, By Kilian Back to Black, OJ Tiare, EL PC Jasmine & White Moss.....

I do have a weakness towards Back To Black, though.

I pick Havana Vanille, with Amaranthine a close runner-up. Can you guess who I choose for perfumer of the year? :-)

Thank you. I can see from this list that I have plenty left to try. I knew Havane Vanille would be mentioned by a few people.

My Scent of the Year is Havana Vanille, easily.
Bertrand Duchaufour is definitely my Perfumer of the Year. The trio of HV, Amaranthine and Al Oudh were all standouts for me this year.
My other candidates for Best of the Year are Soivohle Oudh Lacquer, By Kilian Back to Black, Creed Windsor, Maison Francis Kurkdjian Cologne pour Le Soir, Tom Ford Grey Vetiver, and Neil Morris Red Sky.

I would also vote Amaranthine, with a second to Havana Vanille. Two of my favs, by someone who is quickly becoming my fav perfumer. Those two stand out for me.

Looking through my wardrobe and ratings, the only scent released this year that I bought a full bottle of was Nassomato's Black Afgano.

But that's only because I simply can't afford a bottle of my real Best Of 2009 pick, By Kilian Pure Oud.

I also got some really nice warm weather wear out of the new Hermes Eau de Pamplemousse Rose and the new Diptyque L'Eau de Tarocco, but they were very much just enjoyable indulgences, not things I'd consider worthy of the history books.

Also, points to Back To Black, though I ended up not buying it because my wardrobe is already crawling with tobacco frags.

It sounds like I really need to try Havana Vanille and Amaranthine....

Have not got a single winner in 2009, but then again I have not tried many of the new releases -- Creed, Penhaligon's, SL, Tom Ford. Hopefully, one or two will do it for this skin.

By now I have received two offers to try L'Artisan parfumeur Havanna Vanille -- thanks, but no thanks. It was the hugest disappointment of the year if not of the decade, if you will, and I DID give it many tries.

In NO rush to try Idylle, either.

how poetic is this? Love it.

For me it's Hypnotic Poison, a scent that was a scrubber nearly four years ago, and has now enchanted me.
"Like a lobster with a pearl in its claw, the beet held the jasmine firmly without crushing or obscuring it. Beet lifted jasmine, the way a bullnecked partner lifts a ballerina, and the pair came on stage on citron's fluty cue. As if jasmine were a collection of beautiful paintings, beet hung it in the galleries of the nose, insured it against fire or theft, threw a party to celebrate it. Citron mailed the invitations." On reading this list, two things occur to me. Firstly, that I have only just begun to sample what '09 gave us, even from among my favorite houses. Secondly, that '09 was rather conservative - even the fragrances I love are, all in all, not that adventuresome in their accords.

My top pick would be Back to Black, but it's not an easy one. I'd pick it because it's charming and classical, and now that gourmand tobacco has been done dozens of times, it takes something well-done to stand out in that category. It's great to make something daring and intriguing - I love those fragrances, and the word "weird" in reviews is always a recommendation for me to try something - but to make something in familiar genre stand out by quality alone is harder.

My runners up would be Pure Oud, Amaranthine, and Daphne, in that order. Nothing else has really impressed me very much, including forum favorites like PC Jasmine White Moss and Grey Vetiver.

Sorry to bump the older thread up, but I think I have (finally!) found the scent released in 2009 that I might be buying the whole bottle of -- Prada L'Eau Ambree, just got to test it on my skin last week and now seeking for a larger decant.

Still have not smelled the SL scents from 2009, but smelled Tom Fords (congratulations on FiFi wins!), Penhaligon's and s few others. Also smelled MJ Lola -- 2* at most in my book.

Havana Vanille is "numero uno," but I was
also impressed by Au Lac (Eau d'Italie) and
    Clarins Eau des Jardins.
    Amaranthine was pretty ground-breaking too,
