I had planned to purchase these a few days ago and start 2010 with a buying break, but it didn't work out and I ended up getting them today (so I won't count them towards my self imposed 10 bottle limit in 2010). Yeah I'm cheating a little bit, so what!

Well I ordered it a while ago from abroad, but yesterday I finally received my bottle of Bois d'Argent. Best part? I ordered a 125ml but they made a mistake and sent me a 250ml! I feel like an accidental hoarder!

The end result of a couple of weeks sampling every Lutens I could get my hands on - Chergui ended up being my favorite.

I also picked up a ton of fancy candles at the various after-Christmas sales and a Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir shower gel.

My first purchase of the year was for Odin No.2 Owari.
Odin very kindly sent me a sample of each of their fragrances and although I liked them all, No.2 just did it for me. It has also received many compliments whilst I've been out wearing this, so I had to splash out on a 100ml bottle and have it delivered to the UK.
I've also sent for Custo Man last night. I've no idea what it smells like, but the fragrance notes are what I tend to like, so touch wood this will be a good one.
There are also a few fragrances I like from the Italian companies I Profumi di Firenze and Marco da Venezia, but they will have to wait a while (or at least until next pay day hehe)

    At Neiman's in San Francisco:

    Tom Ford Private Blends
    Bois Marocain
    (2009)
    Green Woods
    ------------------
    Top Notes: Bergamot, Black Pepper
Middles Notes: Cedar, Cypress (Thuja spp.)
    Base Notes: Incense, Vetiver, Patchouli
    -------------------
Don't know where the green is coming from, maybe the cypress or the conjunction of cypress, black pepper, and frankincense? Anyway, this comes across as a very green woods kind of scent. It isn't a brand new concept, just as Grey Vetiver wasn't a new concept, but like GV, it's a very well done retread of an older theme. There are very rarely ground-breaking developments in the world of scents, and when there are, they aren't always recognized for what they are or even very well accepted. Well, this may be tried and true, but with some panache, nice balance, and an overall pleasant impression. Nihil novum sub sole? Maybe that's right in an absolute sense, but this is a new kid on the block that's not half bad.

Virtually unheard of in this country :P Yey, happy! :P

Jacques Bogart WITNESS 50ml (1992, discontinued)

    Top Notes-Artemisia, Orange, Lemon, Bergamot
    Middle Notes-Fir, Rose, Cinnamon, Geranium
    Base Notes-Styrax, Sandalwood, Patchouli, Benzoin

I get a strong bergamot opening, cinnamon that's not overpowering (not really the cinnamon-roll kind), an overall warm, hugs-all-over scent. Starts strong and seems to stay forever, need to be a little easy on the trigger Worth the hunt (again found at another bottom shelf hehe)

Vol de Nuit (vintage Eau de Cologne) by Guerlain

I'll post a picture of the bottle later. It looks a bit like the Mitsouko EdC bottle I own, in a column-style, ribbed glass bottle. I've been wanting this for a long time, after owning a tiny bit of the parfum I've always wanted a more splash-friendly version. This is it.

Chanced upon a traditional niche looking boutique with the name L'Erbolario. Walked in and saw shelves of perfume. Never heard of them before so went spritzer crazy and bought this:

    LEGNI FRUTTATI by L'Erbolario

    Notes: Pear, Licorice, Wood

This is literally a big fat juicy ripe green pear. Very close to the real thing. Think of standing under a pear tree filled with pears. Fruity but not gourmand.

My new Helmut Lang Eau de Cologne arrived today.

After long neglecting a sample I received some years ago I finally gave this a shot in early December. Pretty much love at first sniff. Thankfully the cost is not nearly as high as the other discontinued Helmut Lang, Cuiron.

Haven't bought anything in over 2 months (i think) so I got itchy and went to town and headed for a local fragrance hot-spot, with a fragrance or 2 in mind. I was pleasantly surprised to bump into our very own Xmen there. We chatted and browsed a little. As usual I try not to carry much cash on me as a deterrent to buying more than I had planned to, and as usual it fails to be of much effect. So our coincidental meeting was cut short when I decided I had to go to draw some cash out from the machine some buildings away. We said bye but I was hoping he would still be there browsing/sniffing when I got back. Anyways when I got back to the store, one of the staff said he just left. Oh well, I'd say it was a very pleasant start to my morning. Went home and immediately stuffed them into the wine cooler *ok sorry I got carried away talking so much*

    So I bought these:

I think I may have gone slightly overboard with Yohji Homme today since I already do have some bottles. But it is a truly wonderful scent and unfortunately discontinued. We only live once so I think I can soak and shower in some YH occasionally. Bought today 3 x 50ml.

So yeah the whole hoo-ha about vintage Habit Rouge EDC being the preferred version of versions among some of the folk here... oh yeah I FULLY understand now, why. And I am considering going back another day for more supplies for my next life. Bought today 3 x 110ml.

And another back up of 50ml vintage Sagamore, I swear if I had more cash in my wallet I would have bought a couple more of that. I just wished they had the bloody spray bottles!

I think I did quite ok today.

So is Yohji Homme, really that good? I was going back and forth about adding it to my TPC sample purchase. Unfortunately I didn't and they're on there way. I assume, that if I fell in love, they aren't THAT hard to get, it's still possible. But, is it really that good? Worth going through all that trouble?

Phil, it does feel like something maybe JCE would have done - watery, transparent, extremely light. Certainly unusual for a gourmand scent, IMO. Most of the reviews in the directory are pretty accurate describing it IMO. You may find it to be even lighter than Bvlgari Pour Homme.
