This year I discovered the fabulous Nobile 1942 Colonia Maxima. A fresh but smoky take on colone. Increddibly classy and unique.

What a wonderful way to reward yourself for giving up tobacco... but have you found yourself drawn to smoky, tobacco-inspired scents?

Your sense of smell improves once you quit, so it seemed like a good idea...

I've always liked smoke and tobacco in fragrances, but no: I don't search those out.

Do you have a post anywhere detailing your thoughts on the various MPG room sprays? If not, I think you should start a new thread and share your thoughts on them. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would love to learn more about them, especially as they can be found quite cheaply now.

I'm curious not only about their smell but their longevity, diffusion, and progression. I would imagine the scent would be formulated differently to work as a room spray. How do/don't they compare to a regular perfume in that regard?

Paul Smith Extreme - bought as a present by my wife (my name is also Paul Smith) - its probably the most wearable frgrance Ive had

Clive Christian No1 - cost a fortune but it is so complex and it lasts forever!

My favorite pick up of 2009 was indeed Azzaro PH!. I find the leather and amber purport and concoct with each other splendidly.
It's a chameleon for me. It's indeed adept to incline with different climates. I find that it evolves and evokes color changes and
scent changes via the temperature. On A cold day I believe I get alot more leather. Though in contrary, on a hot day I get a lovely
    spicy and amber feel.

    It's amazing.

I found several new favorites in 2009 but the fragrance that totally blew me away was L'Air de Rien.

Coming from a house I'd previously dismissed, it surprised me and ultimately changed my opinion of Miller Harris. By the end of the year, I had purchased several of their other fragrances.

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and sorry I could not travel both and be one traveler, long I stood and looked down one as far as I could to where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, ...... I shall be telling this with a sigh somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -- I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference. - Robert Frost

I was in Jordan for the larger part of the year, and I didn't really have access to anything new there. Hasn't really been a fragrant year for me, subsisting on only two scents for the whole time I was there. Hopefully, 2010 holds more promise.

But, I did finally get around to smelling MKK this summer thanks to my buddy who made the trip to Paris, and I got to sample Paestum Rose on my pilgrimage to Aedes. These two were, as far as perfumes go, the highlights of the year for me. Will get around to acquiring full-sized bottles of both eventually.

This was mine! It was my most proud full bottle purchase of the year. It's probably the most "personal" fragrance I've ever owned or experienced. If I could mention another, Comme des Garcons Kyoto has become my number one "go to" fragrance, and, after several wearings, I became pretty enamored with Nasomatto Black Afghano.

    That was a great day!

    Andy
I can kinda relate. I discovered these two last month. The Body Kouros I thought was nice, but not me. My dad liked it though, so I bought him a bottle for Christmas. I have not smelled anything on him since then other than Body Kouros. Not his precious D&G ph, hic Cool Waters, or nothing. And you know what...it smells pretty damn good on him! It's soooo fresh and refreshing! It's kinda special. I purposely bought the big bottle so I could maybe get a little decant of it to wear every now and then. But I think it moreso suits him than me.

Ambre Narguile thoug...wow!!!!!!!!! Beautiful! It's what Tom Fords Tobacco Vanille aspires to be. It's appley and sweet and spicey and just straight up lovely! I want it I want it I want it! The 3 others I'm most happy I discovered last year are:

    Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille
    M. Micallef Note Vanille
    L'Artisan Havana Vanille

Sienne l'Hiver would have to be my first choice, too. Wow!

Close contenders for my discovery of the year:

The Aramis Gentlemen collection was perhaps the biggest thing to happen in men's fragrances in the last 15 years IMHO. For these classics to be back and at the forefront and still smelling brilliant was very pleasing. Also, tracking down vintage Antaeus, Van Cleef & Arpels PH, Tiffany for Men and Yatagan were also highlights.
"I exist for myself, and for those to whom my unquenchable thirst for freedom gives everything, but also for everyone, since insofar as I am able to love - I love everyone. Egon Schiele - Self-Potrait

My classics: Dior Homme EdT, YSL Rive Gauche PH, Helmut Lang Cuiron, L'Occitane Neroli (vintage), Davidoff Zino, L'Occitane Eau des Baux

My favorite find for 2009 was Le Parfum by Barbara Bui. The fragrance has one of the best mixes of ambre, incense and heliotrope. Rich, warm but, difficult to find these days.

Apologies for not thanking you for the new posts: I haven't been able to check this forum for the last few days.

I appreciate that you all took the time to write and I am completely overwhelmed by your response. There's no way I'll ever get around to trying all the fragrances you've mentioned, not least because of the cost that would entail!

Here's hoping we'll all make wonderful finds in 2010.
