Happy belated birthday to the weekend birthdays of Ineespenes, odysseusm, and Mr. RHM!

I hope all is going as well as it can for Kewart and her family.

Needed a trip to an olfactory rain forest when suroounded by all this snow.

    L’Artisan Fleur de Liane

Bertrand Duchaufour is one of my favorite perfumers especially when he is working his magic with incense-centric scents. When I saw the note list for the 2008 release for L’Artisan, Fleur de Liane I didn’t see a hint of incense in there. What I saw was a lot of floral and woody notes. This ties in with M. Duchaufour’s inspiration which is said to be a Panamanian rain forest.

This was M. Duchaufour’s second stab at an aquatic floral; the first was Magnolia Romana for Eau D’Italie. That fragrance never came together completely for me and after wearing Fleur de Liane, Magnolia Romana feels like the out-of-town tryout for a Broadway play; Fleur de Liane is opening night.

The top of Fleur de Liane starts with a strongly ozonic accord over melon. The other fragrance which started with a similar accord was Jean-Claude Ellena’s Un Jardin Apres La Mousson. What I find interesting is in M. Ellena’s composition I found the melon distracting and off-putting. In Fleur de Liane it feels just right and that’s despite persisting much longer than in Un Jardin Apres La Mousson. I think it is because M. Duchaufour keeps the melon softer and less pronounced. The heart of Fleur de Liane is also soft as a mix of tuberose and magnolia take the lead. Here M. Duchaufour uses the woody quality of magnolia much more assuredly than in Magnolia Romana. This then leads to the guaiac and cedar in the base quite seamlessly. There is some vetiver and patchouli around but the base stays very woody on my skin.

Fleur de Liane has average longevity and average sillage on me.

While I still look forward to anything M. Duchaufour wants to do with incense, Fleur de Liane has me also looking forward to his next iteration of an aquatic floral by him.

    Have a Tubular Tuesday everyone.

    Oh!!! Just bought it!!!!

    Today, Michael Kors Sheer EdP.

This is NOT sheer!!!! Monster tuberose it is... I can't imagine what the EdP might be... lol

    • Top notes: Creamy florals meet exotic spices. The mix of dewy freesia and Moroccan incense conjures up images of Hawaii, St. Barth's, and Marrakech.
    • Middle notes: Tuberose, blue orris, white wings peony, and arum lilies carries you to New York, London, and Beverly Hills.
    • Bottom notes: Cashmere woods, musk, and vetiver, notes which bring to life the glamorous nightlife of Palm Beach and St. Tropez.

Another super-foggy morning. We've had several days of this - you would think we were coastal or something.

Loving La Perla this morning, in the mood for a nice chypre. I wore Timbuktu to bed last night - I must say that I am developing a true love with it as time goes on.
I am a bit proud of myself for keeping up with my wears for the month on my logon sheet. It amazes me how simple it really is to keep track. Now maybe I'll start updating my BN drobe....

Still working out the kinks in the new computer system here at work. Hopefully today will go a bit smoother than yesterday.

    Greetings and hugs to all

    Hello everybody!

I'm in one of my very favorite 80s-glam chypres - K de Krizia. Smooth, chic and super-mossy. Gorgeous.

Top notes - aldehydes, peach, hyacinth, neroli and bergamot
Middle notes - carnation, orange blossom, orchid, orris root, jasmine, lily-of-the-valley, rose and narcissus
Base notes - leather, sandalwood, amber, musk, civet, oak moss, vanilla, vetiver and styrax

Fortunately it's still available, but does anyone how the current formula measures up to the original?

It is such a treat after days of living in my brain and hardly thinking about perfume. Yes, this is the way to reenter the Basenotes salon with flamboyance. [Swishes feather boa over shoulder.]

Right - Kewart, I have no idea what's happening but I"ll go and find out form the previous days of posts but in the meantime, sending you a big hug, girl.

Voting - no fun going out in the rain but so important you do it. You can't complain about what your government is doing if you don't go out and do your part. And anyway, people died for us to have the right to vote. We owe it to them to be active participants in democracy and that includes demanding that our representatives be honest in their dealings and answerable to their constituents. (Rant over.)(Apologies.)(I'm Welsh; we can be funny about politics. A passionate people, the Welsh.)

I started the day in Molinard de Molinard, inspired by a blog post I read about wearing your summer perfumes in the cold weather. Today was crisp and frosty and MdeM smells of suntan lotion to me (due to some strange crossover memories from my youth). It was a great match! Just right for the school run and baking with Small.

Later, I tried to repeat the experiment with White Linen and while the drydown is now fantastic, the initial blast was too sweet somehow. Like I said, nice now though. And blending nicely with the leftovers of M de M.

Hugs and chocolate fudge cake to you all. (Small has discovered the joys of CFC and we now have to make one every week. Thankfully, Big's colleagues are very happy to get half of it to overload their pancreases as we just couldn't cope with eating it all ourselves!)

Wearing Agent Provocateur, which is unaccountably skanky on me today. I might as well be wearing Vivienne Westwood Boudoir! What strange transmogrification is occurring?

Also testing Hugo Boss Woman, which is an indeterminate fruity-woody-musky number, but pleasant enough in a fairly forgettable way.

    Miller Harris-Noix de Tubereuse

This scent sprinkles cold, 'blue' tuberose-sugared shivers.

I check the SOTD thread just to see kumquat's pictures.

Happy Belated Birthday to "ody" & ineespenes. I'm sorry I missed out on wishing you a great day on the actual birthday, but I hope you had great fun on your days.

Big hug to Kewart & good thoughts for her family, too.

Last night - went to sleep in a big happy cloud of Odalisque. Reformulated, yes - but still really quite nice.

Today - happily festering in Mitsouko EDP.

I wore Les Elixirs Charnels - Oriental Brulant
by Guerlain, because I found my sample, which was misplaced with my cosmetics.

For my third and final day working at the enormous gourmet food trade show, it seemed perfectly fitting to wear Piment Brulant.

Oh, and our resident fragrant cheese goddess Lessa and, of course, RHM should appreciate that I met the rather wonderful people behind two of my favorites, Cypress Grove Chevre and the Cowgirl Creamery. We traded some products at the end of the show and I am now in possession of some truly awesome cheese. I've long been a fan of Cypress Grove's Midnight Moon and Humboldt Fog, but I finally got to try their new-ish Purple Haze, which is soft cherve dusted with Tuscan fennel pollen. The fennel essence permeates the whole thing and creates an amazing juxtaposition between the creamy cheese and the herbal pungency.

Oh, and speaking of pungency, I also got to try Cowgirl Creamery's Red Hawk, a triple-cream cow's milk cheese aged in brine. It's a real stinker, but in a beautiful way...

Oh, rogalal, I am dieting but living vicariously through your foodie reports. Love those cheese makers, and I have got to try that Purple Haze!

Hope everyone had a great day.

Kewert, still hugging you virtually, I know you need all the hugs you receive at this tough time. Hope mama is doing better and heading towards recovery.

Wordie, the CFC sounds wonderful, wish you lived closer. Hope Small is doing well, I missed hearing of her adventures.

Thanks for th hugs and good vibes, I have been passing them on to my friend, who is very appreciative.

Today I wore Opium, I needed that to take mama out to vote, she voted Coakley, sadly not enough others voted for her Since the weather was yucky, Opium was a perfect snuggle scent for me.

Tonight I am wearing, Les Fuites des Heures by Balenciaga. It is such a perfect scent for a (hopefully) peaceful nights sleep.

    Love and hugs all.
