I go to Church every week and I'll choose something that's clean, pleasant and something that won't be distracting. For the last few months of attending Church I've been using Prada Amber Pour Homme and Acqua di Parma Colonia most of the time because I've found both colognes to be very pleasant in a Catholic Church setting and neither will create too much projection.
Another good one to wear to Church would be Mugler Cologne.
Comme des Garcons 2 Man
A nice whiff of resinous incense does the trick on my trips to the church.
I like Comme des Garcons 2 Men as well for church - but for the special festivals, I use CdG Avignon.
But honestly, I wear whatever I'm wearing. It's Sunday after all, so I'm a bit dressed up - I pick a fragrance to go with that. I wear them pretty close to the skin, though - don't project much/wear much.

You should wear a scent with biblical notes like frankincense and myrrh : )
Anything that's not overpowering
I wear my most formal fragrances to church. Envy, 3rd Man, Burberry for men, etc. Lately I've been wearing my sample of Hermessence Ambre Narguile, and I feel so special in it.
As many is I can think of right are: Knize Ten, Azzaro Vist, Chanel Antaeus, Salvador Dali PH, the whole Incense Series by CDG, Azzaro PH, Esencia Loewe, Paco Rabanne PH, Chanel pour Monsieur
I don't normally attend church but if I did I'd go with something light with low sillage. Of the ones I have I'd probably go with Bulgari Pour Homme or YSL M7 Fresh.
I'd give The Devil by Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab a miss, if I were you....
Ave Maria Gratia Plena, would work nicely if applied lightly (more traditional notes of rosewood, Sicilian lemon peel, sandalwood, pale musks, sweet mountain sage, lily, night-blooming jasmine and orris)
Domenico Caraceni 1913
CdG Avignon! Or, depending on the church, Passage d'Enfer...

Just an eau de cologne like ADP Colonia or Hermes Eau d'Orange Verte

Encens Flamboyant! The only incense frag I have haha
I suppose my answer is dependent on the type of church one attends. Modern church experience is more diverse than it was 50 years ago. I am not talking about beliefs, which have been diverse for a long time, but rather the overall environment. At some churches, people dress more formally and conservatively; other congregations have less rigid dress standards. And we can make similar statements about formal vs. informal liturgies, etc.
With that background, my recommendation would largely depend on the environment, attitude and beliefs of the congregants. In more conservative churches, I would tend to prefer discreet scents, with minimal projection. One that to me almost conveys a sense of sanctity is Blenheim Bouquet.
Another thought comes to my mind: if going to church is a time of thoughtful worship and introspection, then wearing a fragrance that helps you focus (or does not distract) would seem to be appropriate.
Just some ideas of mine.
Monsieur de Givenchy
Essence of Jerusalem (for the frankincense & myrrh)
Gucci pour homme (if your church uses incense & you like a heavy incense smell, like the church)
Nino Cerruti (1979) (discreet church incense)
Bandit. Jaw dropping to the old ladies. Lustful glances from the young ones.
Paco Rabanne Ph
Clubman Special reserve
First off, I have to say I'm pleased that we have 22 churchies before me! Anyway, I was a church today and I wore Burberry London. Not that it matters, but I was at Catholic mass.
I suppose Gucci would be appropriate too because of the smokey incensy smell...

thank you all the basenoters.
Bvlgari black 20 sprays.
Seriously though bulgari ph is ultra clean and classy without being to loud.

I play with the idea of wearing no scent to church myself because I think it would make it easier to smell the varieties of scents the women of the congregation wear. All available jokes aside, I'd sure like sitting a pew before or just down one from any ladies of the graceful age.
That girl, that bottle, that mattress and me.
Sorry Duncan, there's only 21 at best in front of you.
I'm a non-subscriber.
A big fat second on the Caraceni
, in addition to all the incense suggestions.

To gain brownie points with the baby Jesus then you should wear a combo of C&S's Frankincense & Myrrh with Gold from Amouage. If you want to impress our lord the father, the son and holy ghost then you should wear Angel Men by Mugler so that you are giving off that saintly aura. If you want to impress the priest with your religious devotion then I would go for Monk by Michael Storer.
I have a secret weapon to which I think proves soo appealing to the church - scene. It's got a subtle innuendo which is Indeed discreet as others have said! I call it...."Bal A Versailles"...In my opinion if lightly applied it'll bring that much wanted antedilluvian essence amongst
An amazingly enchanting scent!
- I Want To Appreciate You With My Eyes Closed-
Chanel Antaeus Equipped With A Double Whipping Of A Black Leather Jacket
Goutal's Encens Flamboyant or Myrrhe Ardente
Tauer's L'Air du Desert Marocain
MPG's Ambre Precieux
C&S Frankincense and Myrrh
The lightest spritz of VC&A PH or Black Aoud
See post no 23.
Oh, you don't attend Church... I get it now.
Another suggestion: Aramis. Picked this up today... I can see myself wearing this on the Holy Sabbath from now on perhaps broadening in what I wear on Sunday.
(Don't actually do this!)

I usually like to wear something that I know my wife will appreciate, since I
usually have her by my side during the service. Cool Water Frozen and
Swiss Army Altitude have gotten some time in this winter. One day in church,
we were having issues with yellow jackets, and I got stung on my belly.
I believe I was wearing Chanel Allure Sport that day. I believe the bees
were attracted to the sweetness of my cologne.
If it's a large dark cathedral I would wear Royal English Leather.
I'd wear an incense fragrance with high sillage to confuse everyone. Avignon?

If you want to smell like incense, try Yatagan. But you really don't want to do that, now, do you?
