Default Burberry London VS. John Varvatos

I sampled John Varvatos yesterday and I do like it although it seemed too similar to Burberry London which I own to warrant a purchase.

    Thoughts???

London is really cinnamon-y to me in the beginning, it's ok nothing special imo

I definately find John Varvatos to be the better one of the 2, since it's more unique to me (don't know how it smells like Le Male), i like the leathery sweet feel to it

I'd go for Burberry London, not because I dislike JV, in any way, it's just because I like the notes in London so much.

IMO, Varvatos is not even in the same league as Burberry London.

I own both. I find the dark cherry in Varvatos gets old after repeated wearings. London is really an outstanding fragrance over time.

Of those two I'd give the nod to John Varvatos. The date accord in the Varvatos keeps it interesting, while I find myself smelling only tobacco in London over repeated wearings, and not much else.

    Yes, same here.

Plus, Burberry London has a fragrance chemical in it that leaves a bitter, metalic taste in my mouth whenever I smell it.

I have owned and enjoyed both. My personal favorite would be Varvatos. To me it smells sexy and dark. Having said that, I wore London more--London received more compliments.

    Burberry London no doubt

I have them both, and I like them both - even though I rarely reach for either of them. If I had to choose, I guess I'd go for JV because it seems to have better staying power on me.

Here's my two cents on these two superior wood/spice frags:

Generally London is more toward the wood end, and Varvatos is more toward the spice end. Varvatos is a bit of a brighter, honeyed spice, and London's is darker like Carob or chocolate. Because of this, I found Varvatos to be semi-Gourmand, whereas London feels too twiggy or leafy to be even borderline Gourmand. Varvatos seems almost too sweet to me, whereas London surprisingly doesn't because it's a different type of sweetness.

I'm not voting because I haven't had enough full testing days with my Varvatos sample to really say, though London has been a big favorite of mine for quite some time. London gets points for the fact that nothing I know of smells quite like it, and Varatos gets docked because it has the medicinal cherry note that seems very overdone these days.
