    Question Favorite notes=?

These are the notes that make life worth while. Help me find my ultimate fragrance please. The notes are: Heliotrope, Vanilla, Labdanum, incense, musk, Peach, almond, oakmoss, styrax, licorice, Sandalwood, Rosewood, Aoud, and cinnamon. The fragrance need not have all of these notes but they should clearly be recognized in the formula.

We have VERY similiar tastes ! I immediately thought of CDG Daphne, although I haven't tried it and been wanting for SO long! It doesn't have of the notes you want, but it has plenty of others: bitter orange, incense, saffron, rose centifolia, Tunisian jasmine, tuberose, iris, patchouli, oud, amber, vanilla. It's supposed to be a HUGE floral-oriental centered around tuberose with weird love-it-or-hate-it topnotes of medicinal oud and saffron and a very distinct accord of sweet incense running through it.

Interestingly enough I'm working on a liquorice blend at the moment

Styrax is one of my absolute favourites. The glue-like note is mesmerising. Unfortunately styrax is now on the endangered list (both in terms of availability to the industry and local harvesting/growing conditions - these are of course interlinked). We use styrax in a few formulas and are currently agonising over whether or not to discontinue the material because it's becoming almost impossible to get and the price has skyrocketed.

I also love olibanum/frankinsence and all the balsams and resins. Opoponax is heavenly; it's like powdery caramel vanilla wood.

I wouldn't know where to begin...my favorite notes are rose, gardenia, and tuberose. I also appreciate amber or patchouli in my base.

I adore Daphne - is starts out with orange incense ... it is a fantastic perfume. Quite a bit retro in style , I think .

This fragrance doesn't contain all your favorite notes, but when I think of some of your favorite fragrances, it has a very similar texture in a way that's hard to describe: Rose des Bois by Profumo.it. It's based around rosewood and cinnamon.

I don't know... I'm all over the place with my perfumes, my tastes vary constantly. I'm more sure about the notes I don't like.

A lot of nice suggestions on this thread. I would highly recommend you should try Malabar by Crown Perfumery -- it has the old-fashioned vibe that you appear to respect, made for women back in 1919 but wearable for men, has a pedigree if you would and could be found online for a song. From the British house, too.

This can indeed be had for a song online. It does have an *old lady* vibe in the topnotes, but wears into a deeper floral scent, which I perceive as white florals.

Has anyone come by the notes in this scent?

A completed eBay listing for Crown Malabar says this (but I have no idea if it's correct) :

This fragrance for men was composed by Perfumers Emilie Copperman and Lucas Suizac. Givenchy Play is available in both an everyday Eau de Toilette and a more intense version, both centered on amyris wood. The Eau de Toilette will include notes of bitter orange, grapefruit, black pepper and patchouli; the Intense version features bergamot, tangerine, pink pepper, vetiver, tonka bean and patchouli.

lots of people love vanilla, it is a vanilla-mania all over.

I read an article once, it said that we tend to dislike certain smells due to associantions we make. Modern ones, that is, acording to times we live- we have scented detergents, scented napkins, scented room odorizers, car freshners, beauty products etc

One of the few smells that has escaped commercialisations in those forms till now is vanilla. So we feel attracted towards vanilla perfumes. Experts estimate that pretty soon we'll have vanilla scents all around us in cleaning, beauty products and so on, and than we'll start rejecting it in perfumes. Till than, everybody produces massively perfumes with strong vanilla, because this is the rave at the moment.

Things are diffrent on asian market though.... Most non-sweet, non-gourmand,light perfumes are made for asian niche of consumers. It's even said that they like it so light that it's a common known thing to put more alcohool in perfumes that go to asians, so that an edt has actually the concentration of an edc, and so on.

Anything with a good long lasting citrus note is what I usually go for, but since citrus doesn't usually last long, I always make sure I've tried a sample first. I do like some that are a little on the aromatic side or slightly spicy mixed in with citrus. Only thing I don't like are fragrances that have leather in them, or are too heavy with the woods or musk.
