    Default 180 Year Collection

SO who's going to pony up the cash for this mouth-watering set?

    Guerlain 180 Year Collection

"A vision of elegance, a symbol of rare and refined luxury, this exceptional numbered edition is presented in a simple yet sophisticated leather case which opens to reveal 18 iconic Guerlain fragrances, from Eau de Cologne Imperiale, composed for Empress Eugenie in 1853, to the House's newest scent, Cruel Gardenia, created in 2008."

it contains 1 ounce of each:
    • 1853 Eau de Cologne Imperiale.
    • 1889 Jicky.
    • 1912 L'Heure Bleue.
    • 1919 Mitsouko.
    • 1925 Shalimar.
    • 1959 Vetiver.
    • 1965 Habit Rouge.
    • 1979 Nahema.
    • 1989 Samsara.
    • 2003 L'Instant de Guerlain.
    • 2004 L'Instant de Guerlain pour Homme.
    • 2005 Rose Barbare.
    • 2005 Angelique Noire.
    • 2005 Cuir Belluga.
    • 2006 Bois d'Arenie.
    • 2006 Insolence.
    • 2007 Iris Ganache.
    • 2008 Cruel Gardenia.

also I can't help but notice how cheap the bottles look.

Uh, a total of 18 oz. for $3,750? I won't be one of the 60 in the US who purchase this one. Why wouldn't someone just sample them all and buy a few bottles of their favorites for infinitely less money? Am I missing something here?

Might buy it if there were discontinued fragrances included, but a bunch of recent releases? Hell no!

Uh, that's just a bit over $200 per bottle. No thanks; one could buy each for about $100 per 100/ml bottle - retail. Of course, you wouldn't have the fancy box or bragging rights to owning such an exclusive confection. The other thing that smells is that half of them were released after 2000. What in god's name is the point of THAT? Where are the real gems like Vol de Nuit, Derby, and Sous Le Vent? And what are the concentrations? Not enough info to make such a dear purchase. Unless of course, you're so filthy rich that dropping four grand means nothing to you. That would be a nice situation indeed.
Now, if they were all original formulations, that might be a different story.

Yeah, no Derby? I didn't even notice that! Just what is need is a 1 oz. bottle of Habit Rouge for $200.

Reading the list chronologically makes it read like "the decline and fall of Guerlain" series...

Just over $200 US each ($208.34, to be precise) ? Some of the pure perfumes go for more than that (if all the perfumes are pure perfumes and not eaux de parfum). Some of the Art et Matière series go for $235 US for 75 ml. That's 2.5 oz., or $95 US per oz. Hard to see what the advantage would be here; it looks like any direct price comparisons would be apples and oranges.

Anyway, I wouldn't buy 18 bottles of anything all at once, and I've already got a lot of these. The other thing I wouldn't do is spend $3750 in one place, unless it was for a cruise or something like that.

Alas! I guess I'm not a perfume addict or a real Guerlainophile after all...

But they did send me 180 Ans de Création as a gift...

Yeah, right! You still work at IHOP. Even if you become a cop like you want, that will be too expensive!

This piece makes part of the very old and traditional line of "Guerlain fetishes", obviously not produced to please people who think in "price per ml" - so it shouldn't be judged as that. It's a purely collector's item. It often strikes my how few people with a hardcore hunter-gatherer's soul are on BN - which maybe is good, helps keep the place sane!
