Default Chanel Allure vs Platinum Egoiste vs Antaeus vs Pour Monsieur

    The best Chanel

Longevity - which is the best ? which one lasts longer ?
Sillage - which is the best ?
    Which one smells better ?

I am realy interested of longevity and smell.

The most important thing to me is the smell, but second best thing is longivity. You can't have a good smell without a good longevity.

On fragrance net it sais that Chanel Allure lasts 11-15 hours. OMG. Is that true ?

Antaeus has good sillage and the best longevity out of these four. As far as the scents go, it's up to you to decide which one you like best since "best" when it comes to fragrances is subjective. (My pick would be Antaeus.)

Antaeus is my fav. 2nd fav is Allure. 3rd fav is PE. 4th is Pour Monsieur.

PE lasts longer than Allure. Antaeus lasts longer than both of them.

Antaeus is difficult to palette at first. The rest are pretty easy. But Antaeus is the most rewarding.

Do not buy any of these blind. Test them all first. There is no excuse for not being able to test any of these, as three of them are extremely common and if you want to test Antaeus just write an email to Chanel asking for a sample or buy a sample from theperfumedcourt

Do not buy any of these blind.

Most fragrances do last an insanely long amount of time, but most people here don't know how to detect them after that long and the scent gets lost in olfactory fatigue - probably the same thing will happen to you, but girls (who tend to have more sensitive noses by the way) will smell your cologne on you the next day even though you couldn't smell it after four hours when you sprayed it on the day before.

Do not buy any of these blind.

    Antaeus rocks! theperfumedcourt.com and chanel.com

For me...It just has to be "Antaeus" It's a masculine version of "Bandit"..I feel the colors of Black and Hot Pink when I apply Both Bandit and Antaeus...The black Color I speak of is the "Burnt - Tar" of Bandit and The "Bees-Wax/Leather From Antaeus" Thus the hot pink applies as that Wonderful floral drydown...Bandit reeks of heavenly Jasmine, Orchid and Rose...Where as That Fuchsia - Like implement from Antaeus is similar in the sense Of Rose, Jasmine and For me...A Nice White lilly scent...Both are amazing!!

As much as I appreciated Antaeus for what it was, I didn't like it. It doesn't have much in the way of sense of humor. It's not playful. It's in your face and uncompromising. I imagine smelling it on like... Clint Eastwood. But not everyone's Clint Eastwood, ya dig?
Platinum Egoiste is kind of poppy generic fresh smelling sort of deal. Personally I'd pass also. I'd say not get too caught up in Chanels (although I guiltily enjoy Allure Homme Sport, that's something else!)

If you have your heart set on something that's as badass as Antaeus but isn't Antaeus, try YSL's M7. That's also quite something. But of course everyone knows these smells.

From your list I think Chanel Pour Monsieur smells the best and Antaeus has the best sillage and longevity.

But my vote for best Chanel men's fragrance goes to Egoiste Concentree.

Among the four Chanel frags CPM is my favourite followed by Antaeus, PE and Allure. Antaeus definitely lasts the longest with the best sillage too followed by PE, Allure and CPM.

I think most frags can lasts up to 12 hours or more but the sillage is the factor that varies a lot from frag to frag.

I tested Platinum Egoiste on my skin last Friday. I loved opening notes but after an hour it became too lemony for my taste. Sillage was great and fragrance stayed with me even after washing... Definitely not worth full bottle to me.

Today I was traveling in car with my collegue who smelled good. First I thought it is some kind of civilized Amen or Rochas because I smelled chocolate/coffee but when I asked him about it he said its Chanel Allure. It wasnt as loud as Egoiste Platinum. I enjoyed its sweet vibe with bit citrus and flowers here and there but am not sure about buying it neither. Actually I think that my Body Kouros would beat it anytime

Never had chance to test Anteus or Pour Monsieur but I am pretty sure that sillage and longetivity will be better on Egoiste Platinum than on Allure Homme. I liked Allure Homme better tho.

Platinum all the way - rich, invigorating, and definitely long lasting.

Though I can appreciate the quality of all the scents, I honestly don't care for Allure.

Vintage Antaeus, although not my style, is well crafted and has truly excellent sillage.

The new formulation is rather disappointing - very poor sillage and the basenotes are weak.

I own a vintage bottle of Chanel Pour Monsieur (not concentree) and enjoy it as a novelty - I would not wear it for romance.

Platinum always receives a favorable response from the ladies.

I would say that longevity and sillage are not a problem with any of them, unless the PM that your asking about isn't concentree(original lasts like 3 hours, concentree is 10-15 hours). The way the frag. smells depends on you. If you like really spicy orientals PM would be down your alley. Allure is a fresh oriental, more modern, but lasts 10-12 hours on me. PE is my favorite. If you've smelled A&F Fierce, Curve, CO Bigelow Elixr Blue, Eternity and countless other green frags. then you would probably like PE. Antaeus, I can't really comment on, since it doesn't seem to be on any counter in my town, but from what I've read, it is a powerhouse. So if you don't like Powerhouse colognes, Antaeus would not be a good blind buy. Allure and PE would be the safest blind buys.

From a smell standpoint I rank them

    1) Platinum Egoiste
    2) (tie) Pour Monsieur & Antaeus
    4) Allure

From a sillage persepctive, Anteaus is the best I would say

Longevity, PE last a long time on me as does Antaeus....PM, while I think it gets a little bit of a bad rap longevity-wise, is a cut below for me. Only tested Allure a couple times...seemed average to me.

Antaeus on all counts. To me, it's the only men's juice from Chanel that's worthy of the name; although, I've forgotten what Sycomore smells like and I know it's almost universally adored.

I've only tried PE and Allure. PE sucks. Allure wins hands down. Antaeus sounds interesting but I've read consistently across many forums that it's actually a little too staid. Will have to find out for myself some day.

Longevity - which is the best ? which one lasts longer ?

to me, allure has Best longevity, and after that anteus

Sillage - which is the best

allure is the Best with sillage
pour monsieur has no sillage at all, i tried it today at liverpool
and maan, im sniffin haaarder than a cane addict on his last line
i tried months ago allure sport and has Better sillage than allure

    Which one smells better
    allure sport smell Better
But Between the ones you mentioned, allure smells Better
anteus to me is too dated, has that old guy viBe to it
platinum egoiste smells good too , But on me sillage is too low, when i tried
i spray 5 times on my right wrist, and i gotta put my nose to it to smell it
it might olfative fatigue, to me smells citrusy
and pour monsieur i can Barely detect the smell
and when i get it, its nice, But nothing great

Antaeus has the best Longevity, but Platinum Egoiste's longevity is great too.

Sillage i would go with Platinum Egoiste

Smell, I would pick either Pour Monsieur if you want classical masculine perfumery, or Platinum Egoiste if you want a modern one.

hmm.. i have pour monsieur concentree, egoiste, plat egoiste and antaeus. actually i find all of them very lasting. i wonder if it is just me, but the new antaeus gives me a headache... some synthetic stuff in there just does not agree with me...

but they are all like my children - different in their own ways but still lovable nonetheless... if u need to just choose one, would go for egoiste if u like perfumes that smells a bit sweet. anteaus is smoky and spicy (ok if it does not give u a headache). vintage PE is stunning (the reformulated one smells mainly lemony to me). and i have a very weak spot for my PM concentree. It was in Austria 1997, i sprayed some PM concentree on my sleeve, forgot about it and went to watch a concert. Throughout the concert, i was sent to olfactory ecstasy by the PMC wafting at me. I went to grab a bottle the very next day!!

    in order of preference...

    1. Pour Monsieur (can be short lived - I find a heavy dose under clothing helps a lot)
    2. Antaeus - Powerhouse!!
    3. Allure
    4. Platinum Egoiste

If you included Egoiste, that would be joint no.1 with PM. Plus it lasts...

I think EGOISTE and POUR MONSIEUR smell alike. The sillage is much better on EGOISTE. POUR MONSIEUR seems like a better version of BOUCHERON JAIPUR. I am confused about ANTAEUS.

Get EGOISTE. It comes in 3.4 for $75 and PM is like 2.5 for $65. I will exchange the PM with Egoiste. PE is good too. Man if you have money get them all. period. Get them from Nordstrom and wear them few days each. Once you the winner out, return the rest.

I have all of them, but the version of my Chanel Pour Monsieur is Concentree.

    My Personal Ranking:

Longevity: CPMC or Antaeus > Allure > PE
Sillage: Antaeus > CPMC > Allure > PE
Scent: Antaeus > CPMC > Allure > PE
Wearability: Allure or PE > CPMC > Antaeus

I think Allure and PE are more wearable/safer around people as both have this casual vibe. Antaeus is strong, and CPMC tends to give the wearer a mature aura. PE is just too weak on skin.

From the list, I'll repurchase them all except the PE.

Kouros gets a hole in one while Antaeus slices into the woods. YSL does this sort of thing much better, I can't help but feel that Antaeus is Chanel's most overrated masculine. PE is just chemical dreck.

Go with Allure, it lasts all day and people always compliment me on it because they can smell it from a couple feet away.

As this thread has flickered fitfully for over two years, I guess it's OK to chime in at this late date; the material interests me.

I've used three of the four (not Allure) and of those three the biggest success has been Antaeus. Pour Monsieur on me was pleasant if weak and short-lived; Platinum, as others have noted, had a sort of generic-90's feel, clean but artificial, a bargain at half the price.

I like Antaeus because it succeeds where something like Azzaro fails, balancing borderline-nasty animalic notes against sweetness and wood. I found those juxtapositions in Azzaro to be disquieting and bizarre, whereas in Antaeus they work together to create the proverbial whole that is greater than the parts.

Luca Turin has described Antaeus as the first gay fragrance, a characterization that has rather puzzled me. Does he mean that it was the first "emblematically" gay fragrance, or that there was some essentially gay quality to the notes, or more simply that it was popular with gay people? Given that about half of the key signifiers of gay culture in the early eighties (to take a tiny sample, think Madonna, Boy George, New Romantic, perms for men, stud belts, harness boots, day-glo, "club drugs," shortwaisted double-breasted jackets, and men's eyeliner) had become core elements of mainstream pop culture by 1986, none of these explanations would seem to defuse the basic silliness of the observation.
