Default Serial Numbers and Fragrance Age

Maybe a rookie question, but is their a way to determine a products age by looking at the serial numbers? For example, if I wanted to buy a cologne at a discount store could I somehow figure out which is the newest?

    Sometimes this calculator works: http://datecalculator.googlepages.com/englishhomepage
Don't include any spaces in it.

Is there any other way? Especially Armani and Burberry products. I would like to find out if cheapsmells has finally started to send me something new lol.

Other than calling the company and asking them directly (which I doubt will get you the answer you want) I do not believe there is a way to tell. As far as I know there is no "standard" for serial coding that all fragrances follow. Some believe that you can extract the year a Creed was made from their serial number on the bottle, but that makes no sense considering a brand new bottle of MI that I purchased (new clear bottle version, not gold) had a serial with the "year" being 2001 which is well before that bottle came out. As long as the fragrance wasn't used and therefore not sprayed, you don't really have much to worry about.

Please also note that 'newest' is not always best, especially when it comes to fragrances that have been reformulated. Do you ask for the newest bottle of Rioja wine? I thought not.
